Hotel Goldener Ochs

We loved everything about this place. That we were in Bad Ischl during the Krampusauf did not hurt our authentic experience of Christmas in Salzkammergut. The inn is lovely, the staff warm and friendly, and the spacious room (411) with a nice view of the river. We enjoyed dinner in their restaurant (typical Austrian fare) and the full breakfast in the morning. Truly one of my best hotel stays ever. Do not hesitate to book here.

The receptionist that was probably the owner's daughter was really rude and arrogant. The waitress in the breakfast room was also so rude and arrogant. She didn't care about our requests as hotel guests! She has mistreated us and pretended nothing had happened.

I also just wrote a review on their dining room - the schnitzels was so delicious (cooked by the owner in their cosy and stylish dining room, way better than other schnitzels I've had) I ate the same meal twice. I was there for five nights and absolutely loved it. 1) the location. It's tucked down a laneway so feels like a secret. The centre of town is a 2 minute walk across a cute little bridge - and that means getting to and fro you get a glorious river view that you'd miss if staying elsewhere. So you are out of any business but literally a moment away. Train station also a 7 minute walk only 2) the staff. They are lovely. It is family owned and they couldn't be nicer, so welcoming and professional. 3) little design touches like the fabric on the front of the reception and the aqua velvet chair in my room. 4) the speak easy bar. It feels like a slice of NY. very cool. 5) I didn't get at all the health area as I was there for work, but wish I had (saunas, a freezing pool for feet before warming them for some circ. benefit, a glorious pool, a 'breathing'; room with rosemary. It looked awesome. 6) colleagues attain different places all over town and I felt mine was the most authentically Austrian, with everything I need (and more), classy but a home way from home. Would go to Bad Ischl just to stay there again! 7) some little odd things like the room lay out (toilet opening to the front door) but this is an old building not purpose built so naturally has a few quirks.

Stunning hotel by the river In beautiful Bad Ischl. Our room had a fabulous view overlooking the river and the mountains. Bad Ischl is a beautiful town with all the amenities. We will definitely return. There is plenty to do if you don’t have a car. Lots of walking and cycling.

Ein sehr zentral gelegenes ruhiges Hotel im Herzen von Bad Ischl. Die Qualität des Hauses entspricht sowohl in der Ausstattung des Hotels als auch im Restaurant der 4-Sterne-Kategorie. Der Gesamteindruck des Hauses ist elegant, aber durch die nette Einrichtung sehr heimelig bodenständig. Das Essen ist hervorragend und das Personal sehr freundlich. Dass es keine Halbpension gibt, allerdings ein Restaurant im Haus mit reduziertem Preis für Hotelgäste, hat uns zugesagt, zumal wir uns dann jene Speisen aussuchen konnten, die uns schmecken. Im Haus gibt es einen kleinen Spa-Bereich und eine Garage für Autofahrer. Zum berühmten Cafe Zauner sind es keine 10 Minuten oder etwa zum Bahnhof. Uns hat es sehr gefallen!

Nach so vielen Jahren und Aufenthalten in Ischl und auch im Ochsen kann ich nur immer wieder mein Lob und meinen Dank aussprechen. Der Ochs ist für mich heimkommen und ab Sekunde Eins abschalten. Von Herzen danke an allen, die dort täglich Grossartiges leisten, um uns Gästen eine schöne Zeit zu ermöglichen.
