I'm a traveler from the United States. I had a couple days between trips in nearby Florence and farther north in Lake Como, so I was looking for somewhere from which to explore Italy's rugged Apuan Alps. Stazzema is unlike anywhere I have ever been. You'll likely be the only person in the village from out-of-town, but the folks at B&B Convivium will make you feel right at home. Claudia and her father are kind, knowledgeable, gracious, friendly, and fantastic cooks. For my 3 meals there, they made an astonishing variety of homemade pasta, pastries, and more-- all made with local grains and berries, unique to area. Walking down the main street of Stazzema feels like stepping back in time by 500 years. The peaceful silence, the birdsong, the brilliant red and orange flowers and twisting vines along the houses, the lush green forest hugging the town. The local hikes-- accessed from just about a quarter mile outside the town itself-- are absolutely stunning. This is the ideal place for somebody who loves nature, delicious food, and true Italian culture. I had one of the best travel experiences of my entire life here. Claudia, I hope we meet again some time!
