Desolation Hotel

Desolation Hotel has done it again—they truly never miss. I’ve stayed here a few times now and every visit has been nothing short of amazing. This most recent trip was for my friend’s bachelorette party, and it was perfect from start to finish. There are so many things Desolation gets right, but here are just a few highlights: First, the staff was outstanding—especially housekeeping. It was such a treat to come back to a refreshed, tidy suite each day. The beds in the townhouses are incredibly comfortable—seriously, 10/10. One of our favorite features was the outdoor deck with a fireplace and table. Our group of girls made the most of it—we had morning coffee chats, breakfast dates, played games, and just soaked up the great weather and each other’s company. It’s such a cozy, inviting space. We also hit the on-site gym, which was a great perk! It’s well-equipped with dumbbells, yoga mats, a bench, jump ropes, two Pelotons, and a treadmill—everything we needed to get in a quick workout before enjoying Tahoe’s nightlife. One of the best parts about Desolation is the location. It’s just a 5-minute walk to the *****, making it super convenient. But if you don’t feel like going out, you’re in luck—Desolation has its own restaurant, Maggie’s. We had dinner there one night and were blown away. The food was top-notch, the cocktails were divine, and the service was phenomenal. Huge shoutout to our server, Shalieh—she was so friendly, knowledgeable, and even helped us take group photos. She made the evening feel extra special. The bride-to-be felt truly celebrated, and the mixologist added a sweet touch to her whiskey sour with a custom foam design (photo below!). We loved it so much that we came back for breakfast—and I highly recommend doing the same at least once during your stay. We also had a relaxed pool day and couldn’t have asked for more. We had the pool to ourselves, and it was such a peaceful, luxurious experience. The loungers are super comfy, and there’s even a hot tub—perfect for unwinding. I’ll definitely be back again. I’ve already recommended Desolation Hotel to friends and family, and they’ve all had amazing experiences too. If you’re looking for a place that nails it on all fronts—comfort, service, location, and amenities—this is it. You won’t regret booking here.

Wonderful hotel in South Lake Tahoe! The rooms are so comfortable and the room design is amazing. The little restaurant, Maggie's, also has great food and the cocktails were delicious. Definitely make a reservation here. You won't regret it!

WOW. I would stay here again and again. It is so close to everything and was very clean and quiet, plus who doesn't want a hot tub on the balcony?!

I been in tahoe for years and surely this is the best place i ever stayed in . Clean , quiet , amazing decor rooms . Fantastic location .

Fun Winter Excursion Beautiful room. Had neighbors on the sides and above us, but we never heard a peep. There were robes and slippers, complimentary bottle of champagne, heated floors in the bathroom. Fully functional kitchen. Ample outlets and chargers for all our devices. My son was OBSESSED with the tornado fireplace. Parking lot was never crowded. Tesla charger worked great. Maggie’s (on site dining) was wonderful. We had dinner and breakfast there. Staff is great with kids. Gym was fine. Not a lot of weightlifting options, but great for cardio and free weights for the basics. Didn’t get a chance to use the sauna or heated pools but they looked nice. Hotel is located in the middle of downtown south Tahoe. We walked to all the shops, *******, gondolas, etc. quite the fun winter experience. Well definitely be back.

Desolation Hotel is truly special. From the moment I arrived on the property, I was struck by how seamlessly everything is designed for comfort and ease. The attention to detail is remarkable, from the private, secure parking to the modern rooms filled with character and thoughtful touches that create moments of delight throughout your stay. Maggie’s restaurant is an absolute gem, offering inventive and delicious dishes that quickly made it a highlight of my visit. The staff there, and across the hotel, went above and beyond, left feeling like I had made lifelong friends. The location is unbeatable: just a 5-minute walk to Heavenly and 5 minutes to the lake, making it perfect for both adventure and relaxation. I stayed for four days, and in that time, I genuinely felt like part of the family. This was, without a doubt, one of the best hotel experiences of my life. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, it’s a rare find that goes beyond expectations in every way.
