The Still Beach House

We really wanted to like this place, the view of the Pitons was wonderful, and the housekeeping staff was superb. If not for the staff, I would have given only 1 star. Can't speak to all the rooms, but Room 1 was a real disappointment, especially for the money we paid. 2 glaring safety issues. First, there is no security lock on the inside of the door, which meant that anyone with a key could enter your room at any time. Secondly, the ironing board provided continually collapsed which could result in a serious burn. Asked for a replacement, and the one they brought was even worse. There were no toiletries - no shampoo, no conditioner, no shower gel - just a used bottle of hand soap. There was a lovely tea kettle and coffee pot in the room, but nothing to put in them. The rod in the closet was pretty much unusable. Despite sufficient depth, the rod was mounted in such a way that anything hung there would rub against the wall. The lights on the nightstand did not have a switch - the only way to turn the light on is via a switch that is part of the outlet on the wall. Apparently, there was an issue with the shower plumbing at some point. The repair was with PVC (common on the island), but looked like it was done by a rank beginner. The shower head itself looked like someone took the lid of a jar and poked holes in it. On our next to last day, we stopped at the restaurant, (food is OK, prices reasonable, service slooow), but they could serve almost nothing on their menu as they did not have the ingredients - we ended up going into town for the meal.

We had a fantastic stay at Still Beach. I would highly recommend a stay at this wonderful guest house! The room was wonderful with good facilities and the bed was extremely comfortable and stylish, in the plantation style. Top quality and very, very clean! Our balcony was amazing! It was fantastic to sit on the balcony watching tall traditional sailing ships come into the bay and watch all the small local boats zip around. The balcony has a wonderful view of the Grand Piton that cannot be beaten! I don’t think there is a better room on the island! It is a one minute walk to the beautiful beach below, where you can swim with views of the palm trees and rainforest mountains. Under the rooms is a super restaurant where we fell in love with the local St Lucian fishcakes! We visited exotic tropical gardens, soaked in mineral pools and went on a boat trip to Sugar Beach which is totally stunning. Soufriere town is very interesting town and very traditional, in the old style. A gem. Melissa was totally helpful before and during the visit, helping us getting a taxi from the north, and with any other of our queries. The housekeepers were fantastic too. The owners of the property were particularly hospitable to us and showed us the real St Lucia. We would recommend staying at Still Beach to anyone who wants a true Saint Lucian experience. The village of Sourfriere has some of the best views of the Pitons and the view from here is about as good as it gets. Beyond the view it seemed like a reasonable value. We had a large room with AC, a small TV, a balcony with 2 chairs and a small table, private bath and a safe. There is a small restaurant downstairs and from there a few steps down to the beach. There's a shower to rinse when coming off the beach but no chairs to use on the beach. Saw some broken glass so wore water shoes into the ocean. It's an easy walk into town where there's a Massy grocery, a small outdoor market by the bus station and the harbor dock. There's no sign at the entrance so had to ask around to make sure we were in the right place. (We were driving ourselves.) We had a water issue in our room, but the staff was very friendly and did everything they could to make sure our visit was comfortable.
