Ocean Village Deluxe

We’re here for a month escaping winter. This is our first time at Ocean Village Deluxe, and so far it’s amazing. We’re in a two-bedroom with a pool. The home was spotless, and everything works as advertised. Note that the internet speed may not be what you’re used to (3-4 Mbps), but our streaming platforms are working well. We’ll see how Zoom/Teams works this week… Be warned that the complex is not within walking distance of a grocery store (or anything else). The front desk arranged a cab for us on the first day that took us to the local store, where we stocked up. Luckily, we arrived mid-afternoon, so we were good to go the first morning! The villa does not come with laundry or dish or dishwasher soap, or cleaner…or extra toilet paper…So add these basic items to your first list… They have wrist bands here, which is normal in a resort, but is likely to get annoying for the month we’re here. The staff have been super friendly and helpful. We’ve had two meals delivered from the Maria restaurant, which were excellent. Payment for the meal could have been an adventure…when we ordered the first time, we told them we wanted to put it on the villa…they sent a lad over to get my wrist band, but of course you can’t take it off, so into the golf cart I went to pay the cashier, then walked back to the villa to wait for delivery…Turns our we’re less than 100m from the restaurant, so for the next order, I just walked over, ordered and paid, and the food showed up… On the website, they tell you that golf carts, bikes, and segways are available for rent…no they’re not….As noted by others, this is a big place, so if you arrive without a vehicle, be prepared to walk. I’ve seen ‘bus stops’, so maybe there’s a shuttle that scoots around… I’m surprised there isn’t a convenience store on site. The closest one is a mile away by foot on the main road. Anyway, we’re happily tucked in and looking forward to a peaceful month away from the snow and cold…

Stayed at Villa 24 with my wife and 3 small kids for 4 nights. Pros: - The villa was very nice. Great really. Large, modern, great private pool. Couldn't have asked for anything more. - The price, both of the villa, and food and beverage on site extremely reasonable/ almost underpriced. - Location - close to the airport. Super close to Sosua Beach, Playa Alicia, and very close to Cabarete. We went to Kite Beach for a day. 10 min taxi ride. Awesome day. General note: - From what I can tell there was an old hotel called Sosua Ocean Village which no longer exists. The old pool from that hotel, which has some waterslides, and a little boat shaped bar are still open, but a little run down. Decent shape, but not great. There are pictures on the website of a larger waterpark, and restaurant Laguna. For us at least access to these areas was not included. The pool area we could access, on the eastern edge of Ocean Village Deluxe, also gives you access to the beach. The beach here is strikingly beautiful. But it is not really ideal for spending time in the water. At least while we were there red flags were up the whole time. Very rough surf. This is not a long beach, more a little beachy area surrounded by rocky cliffs. On the western edge of Ocean Village Deluxe, where we checked in, they seem to be building the center of the new Ocean Village Deluxe resort, and you are basically in an active construction site. The pool and restaurant over there are fully under construction. Like bulldozers, the whole nine yards. There is one restaurant that is open, a short walk away, with a big pool next to it, and 3 whirlpools on one side. This restaurant is mostly outdoors, gorgeous, and the food and drink were all very good. But it is the only restaurant. Cons - Hospitality - The staff here were all very nice and friendly, but I kept getting the sense that management and the rules they are told to follow were the impediments to us really getting a sense of hospitality. Some examples - upon check in to the villa, one of the first things we were told was to take pictures of the plates and glasses so we could dispute any charge related to them being missing or broken upon checkout. Weird. You are given a bracelet that you can use to charge things to your room and access some locked gates, etc. We were given a stern warning losing one would result in a $25 charge. At dinner one night we asked for the check without stating we wanting to charge to our room. We were told it was too late once the paper check was presented to switch to a room charge and had to use a credit card. Our stay included breakfast. We were told to bring a paper voucher to the restaurant each morning. One morning we forgot and were not allowed to place our order until I went back to the villa and got the voucher. None of these were huge issues, but altogether just destroyed any sense of us being welcomed to the resort as guests. - The restaurant was lis

Nous avons loué une villa 11 nuits avec nos deux filles de 10 ans pendant les vacances de Noël. Nous avions choisi cet endroit pour ses activités, restaurants, bars. Quel déception quand nous avons découvert que tout était fermé : 1 seul restaurant (médiocre) ouvert sur les 4, l'espace de jeux fermé, l'espace aquatique avec les toboggans fermé. Nous n'en avions pas été informé avant notre arrivée et cela ne semblait pas choquer le manager quand nous avons posé des questions... Tant pis nous resterons dans la villa ! Mais nous avons du changer nos plans quand nous avons entendu les marteaux piqueurs de 8h du matin jusqu'à 17h ! La villa en face de la nôtre était en construction. Là encore rien de choquant pour le manager et aucune solution proposée : pas possible de changer de villa, pas de proposition commerciale. En fait le complexe est en construction partout mais les infrastructures existantes ne sont pas entretenues. Cela donne un endroit sans aucun charme ni aucun intérêt. Le confort de la villa ne compense pas tous les désagréments du complexe et son niveau de services catastrophique. Surtout que, même si la villa est très belle, elle manque aussi d'entretien (moustiquaire trouée, service de vaisselle pour 4 et pas un de plus, piscine froide...). Nous avons visité beaucoup d'autres complexes autour pendant notre séjour (notamment le superbe Natura Cabana) et nous avons amèrement regretté notre choix. Je ne peux que vous recommander de ne SURTOUT PAS PASSER VOTRE SEJOUR ICI !!
