The hotel is 1 km from the Somnath railway station, 8 km from the Veraval railway station. The airport is 90 km away. Sarovar Portico (Somnath) is a highly recommended place to stay. We have a pleasant experience, thanks to smart and efficient staff members (at the Front Office, Restaurant, and Housekeeping). Location/Ambience: Very near to the Somnath Temple and other major religious sites and sea beach. Except for the unpleasant dry-fishy odour in the air (blame it on the nearby Veraval Fishing port and business), the location and ambience are still good. Food/Restaurant: Vegetarian delight for sure. Tasty food though minimal spread (breakfast/buffet). We expected a lavish spread, at least in Breakfast. Again, It’s still OK when you are on a religious trip. Quick and smart services of the Restaurant staff: Thanks to the Chef/ team and special mention to the service staff, especially Aparna and the other lady (sorry forgot her name). The restaurant team make you feel comfortable and at ease. Travel Desk: What’s lacking is a dedicated travel desk. The travel and tour contacts (taxi and auto transfers) received from the reception and staff are limited and monopolised. So chances are you are getting high rates. Suppose one wishes to have a better and more competitive deal (for Taxi service and local/inter-State trips). In that case, flexible options are available near the Somnath Temple area (e.g. Yogi Travel/ Mr Mahesh Dodeja). Very helpful, and his tips could really help if you are on a religious/pleasure trip to Gujarat (Dwarka-Somnath-Porbandar-Girnar-Rajkot etc.). We have availed his services in recent trip and compared to others available. In any case, Sarovar portico’s staffs are helpful for sure but may not know about the charges and pricing a customer is getting. Overall the experience was good, and we can return to stay there again.
