My wife and I had our first stay here for a night in #8 recently to attend the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and next morning Christmas Parade. I have been traveling to Solvang since long before it became a mecca for wine geeks (of which I am one). We have stayed at nearly every other motel/hotel in Solvang and the nearby (3 miles) community of Buellton over the last three decades so this was a first. It is off the beaten path as far as the center of town is concerned; right at the point where it becomes outdoorsy. Most of the others in town are right in town and, although the town rolls up the sidewalks early, the are occasional cars driving down Mission Street, the main drag, upon which at least half of the hotels are located. These are older but updated buildings inside and which do not necessarily have soundproofing against outside noise. None of them are terribly noisy though. The M has none of those problems and your walk into the center of town is 5-7 minutes and not worth starting your car for. The room itself was European Quaint with both older touches combined with some reproductions. For instance, our room had a stained glass window in a window between the room and bathroom. At 5 feet though, it afforded privacy while lighting up the room when the bathroom light was on. The shower/tub was new and interesting enough for me to attach a photo. Unlike some visitors mentioned, I do not believe the room was too small and the bathroom just on the normal side of what I would call compact. There were a few things that were imperfect (like the horizontal blinds were broken in several places- one could not even be raised or lowered) but with COVID I wouldn't expect them to have time, staff, or money to rush out and replace them. The first dozen rooms like we were in were in a ”U” shape at the center of which is the office. A nice garden and fountain were in the center with walkways both around and through. There is a drive-through alley to the left just past this building and there is ample parking in the back with individual but attached units I would describe as ”suites,” each with it's own name, e.g. ”Sweet Pea.” The cost was about the same as comparable hotels in town...except this was only one of three rooms still left when AAA informed us that the room we previously reserved ( and paid for) was not ”guaranteed” after all. First and last time booking through AAA. We felt fortunate to find anything three days before a major Solvang event. We only met one of the staff and she was very pleasant.
