What a fantastic week we have had at the Astoria. I will include in this review what we loved, what we think could be improved and also some top tips for anyone planning to stay at this hotel. Positives: The staff at the Astoria are incredible. Not only are they friendly and welcoming, they can't do enough for you. Any query we had, we spoke to the lady on reception and she was so helpful! The rooms are cleaned daily and the towels and bedding are changed regularly as well. We opted to have air conditioning and a safe in our room at an extra cost. The air conditioning was invaluable considering the high temperatures in Skiathos during our stay. The beds were really comfortable and we all slept really well. There is a TV, kettle and mini fridge in the room as well as a hairdryer in the bathroom so you have everything that you need. The breakfast offered plenty of choice with fruit juice, coffee, tea, fruit, yoghurt, nuts, pastries and cake. There were some hot food offerings including baked beans, scambled eggs, fried eggs, bacon and mushrooms although this changed on a daily basis. Everything was replenished by the staff regularly so there was plenty for everyone. The hotel itself is beautiful, the bar and pool area offer a lovely place to sit and have a drink, you may even get a visit from the family dog Ralph! The staff even played the England match for us so we could watch it in the bar area. We didn't use the pool during our stay but there always seemed to be plenty of sunbeds available. The location of this hotel is fantastic. It is right next to a supermarket and bus stop 20, allowing you to easily access town at bus stop 4 or travel in the opposite direction to Koukounaries at bus stop 0. The buses run every 15 minutes but we never seemed to wait any longer than 5 minutes for a bus! Troulos beach is beautiful and only a 5 minute walk Suggested Improvements: We had a couple of issues with the shower where water pressure was lost, I suspect this was because many people in the hotel were using the showers at the same time. At one point no water was coming out of our shower at all. If the showers/water system could be upgraded that would be great. Top tips: - There isn't an iron in the room so you may want to take your own. There are plenty of coat hangers in the wardrobes though. - Even though there is a kettle in the room, tea and coffee isn't provided so bring your own. - Beach towels can be hired at reception for the week at an extra cost. It is clear from speaking to other visitors to the Astoria that this is somewhere that people return back to again and again, which I think says a lot! Thank you to all of the staff at Astoria (and Ralph) for a memorable stay during our first visit to Skiathos, we will certainly be back!
