I had been here years ago and thought it would be pleasant to return. However, it was a hugely letting-down experience with unreliable customer service. I had proceeded with a booking over the phone, where the type of the room, the respective dates and the price was agreed. The motive was that paying them directly (even though with the prices quoted online) I could help a medium business to avoid unnecessary fees, even though I had no direct benefit myself. Huge mistake. I did not receive any written confirmation, so I proceeded with calling 3 times in a period of 10 days, and I was invariably told to not worry at all and that the booking is safe and guaranteed. After 2 weeks of the initial phone call, I eventually received the confirmation in writing: the initially just over €900 reservation for 4 nights was increased to just below €1300. When I called to (naively) question whether there was a mistake, I was dismissed with “we never agreed anything”. Obviously they chose to increase their prices once they reached closer to the reservation dates by not honouring already made bookings. Needless to say, I am never returning to that hotel again and, unfortunately, I will be sharing my experience with anyone I know who is planning to visit Chalkidiki for them to avoid similar treatment by this establishment. This hotel’s attitude is damaging the tourism sector, decreases any transactional trust, and leaves customers with little choice than going through intermediates and not bring any business directly to them. However, I thank them for the lesson learnt, albeit the hard way: one has to toughen up, look after personal interests only, and be less caring for smaller businesses by going through intermediaries, to which the businesses have to pay additional fees.
