The Victoria Hotel & Source Spa

Let’s start with a positives majority of the staff are exceptionally polite and courteous. It’s got a traditional charm and high standards. The three course dinner and breakfast were delicious, highly recommend the food. The spa has been modernised to high standard but it felt overcrowded with only eight people memberships and hotel guests. Now for our negatives! we didn’t spend much time in our room on the Saturday night, we stayed in the lobby listening to band. At around 6.45am on the Sunday morning, I was woken by the people around walking around their room. The chandelier was shaking and the glass shells rattling, it didn’t stop until 8am by that time I was wide awake. Then, when we returned to our room after breakfast, the chambermaid knocked the door and went explained we weren’t ready get (about 9.30 - but 11am check out). I went for a shower and as I was getting out the chambermaid entered the room without knocking, very embarrassed as my mother-in-law was in her swim wear and I was wrapped in a towel, she just looked down and left the room without a word. Then about 30mins later she walked in again, she did say sorry this time, which I said you must knock before entering rooms. We went down to check out of the room but stay for our spa treatment. The manger said he would get the chandelier checked by the maintenance team as they wouldn’t want it to disturb anymore guests. We went down to the spa and waited for a treatments, which were very good. When we settled the bill the manager had taken a cup of tea off the bill £4.50. It was meant to be a relaxing spa night away, to be woken up so early and then made to feel we had to leave our room was not what I expected.

A group of 20 ladies we had drinks in the delightful Berties Bar and then moved into The White Room for lunch. Food delicious and beautifully served, with excellent menu choices. The Victoria is a fabulous hotel should be a 5* . Everything is top notch from the service, exquisite fresh flowers, even the loos are superb. It is traditional and luxurious yet informally formal. The new spa and treatments are bliss.

We booked a deluxe sea facing room with a DBB rate well in excess of £500 per night. We expected it to be fabulous. The room, 205, was dominated by the wall of the room next door, sticking out by maybe 20 feet. The view from the bed was of the wall. The view from the chairs was of the wall. The view from the balcony was of the wall with the sea in the distance. The manager explained that this was an old hotel and this is how they were built, fair enough, but sell the room as a standard room not as a deluxe spacious airy and bright room. And don't charge £500 + for it. The hotel was full so we couldnt be moved so we went home, with a partial refund, but no apology for a holiday ruined. The upset over the room cast a spell over everything. Overall the Victoria has been lovely in years gone by, but on this occasion it looked and felt tired, and we couldnt wait to leave.

A lovely birthday weekend away for my wife in this well positioned hotel. Close to all that the town of Sidmouth has to offer and with good facilities. At this price point our expectations were high but not achieved in all respects. Some staff are wonderful (the Liverpudlian man on the door) but this is not consistent. Fantastic sea views from our room which was a most welcome complimentary upgrade. Unfortunately, the room was not particularly clean which was a real disappointment. Just a few tweaks needed to make this the experience it should be for the price.

Weekend away with friends for the Sidmouth folk festival, great hotel very clean lots to do! The outdoor pool was very nice lots of activities throughout the day
