Whitford House is an impeccably restored New England Farmhouse that exudes an artful, calm, warm aesthetic surrounded by farmland and offering spectacular mountain views, abundant starry skies and a peacefulness beyond words. It is located in a rural setting with ease of access (15-20 min drive) to beautiful state parks, Lake Champlain, historic sites and several superb restaurants. The home has an intriguing, extensive library with a fireplace at its center offering two handcrafted teak rocking chairs (built locally) to relax with a glass of wine, cup of tea, whatever your preference. Hosts Jeff and Maryjane are wonderfully welcoming, gracious, exceptionally lovely people.

This is definitely getting away from the city, but not from comfort. I spent two lovely nights in the Twin View Barn. On both nights, I had a dinner of delicious takeouts from Pratt's Store and from the town of Vergennes, with a bottle of wine from the local Shelburne Vineyard, enjoying the sundown. Jeff, the host, is most helpful with tips on what to do in the area (and there is a lot to do) as well on where to get dinner. The barn is spacious yet cozy and the bed is very comfortable.

I spent ten days at Twin View Barn and could not have had a better experience. You really can’t convey just how breathtaking the view is, especially at dusk, and the high ceiling and generous natural light mean you’ll never feel cooped up. Jeff is smart as a whip and extremely competent, which means the barn has been thought through with care. The lighting has been designed with precision, the kitchen is fully equipped, and the sound system adds the perfect final touch, leaving you feeling at home. Jeff strikes a balance between respecting your privacy and making himself available to you, and you will likely come away with a clear sense of someone who actively cares and does his best to make your experience special. It’s not easy to install air conditioning in an uninsulated barn with vaulting ceilings, but figure that out (which, apparently, Jeff is doing) and you’ve got a six-star-out-of-five-star experience here. Oh, and did I mention Addison County’s jaw-dropping beauty?

What a beautiful place to stay. Addison VT is in the Champlain Valley and spectacular. Twin View Cottage on the Whitford House property as the perfect place for the start of our vacation. Our hosts, Jeff and Mary Jane, have created a slice of paradise. They are very knowledgeable about the area and can provide recommendations to meet anyone’s desire for fun activities. Consider staying here. You will love it.

The cottage is beyond cozy and lovely-- what a respite among the farms and forest of the Vermont countryside. I attended a sporting event at Middlebury College and while the Whitford House was slightly farther away from the college than I hoped, the peacefulness of the house made it well worth the drive. I did not have time to share breakfast with Jeff or the other guests due to my early departures each day, but I'm sure it would have been delightful. The King Size bed and blankets made the nights sleep some of the best I've ever had in any hotel or inn ANYWHERE. The Wifi was excellent, the bathroom was luxurious and Jeff was beyond accommodating. He even cleared the snow and ice off my car one morning before I left. True gentleman!

We were in town for 4 days for a sporting event at Middlebury College. It was so nice coming back to the tranquility of Whitford House between sessions and after finals each night. The house is brimming with New England charm and has gorgeous mountain views on all sides. Most important to us, Jeff was a fabulous host. He was very easy to communicate with before and during the visit, gave us a lot of great recommendations for local dining and activities, made us tasty breakfasts each morning and is a great conversationalist. We really enjoyed our stay. The next time we’re visiting the Middlebury area we will definitely stay at Whitford House.

We had a great stay at Whitford House, guest house. After having travelled for several weeks, we wanted to relax at a more remote location but not be cut off of comfort. The guest house did just that. Provides spacious room, wonderful views and absolute silence at night. And most of all, Jeff made us feel as if we where visiting old friends. Lots of suggestions for day trips and good restaurants. And good music! Thanks Jeff for having us. Definitely recommend this hotel.

the owner Jeff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The cottage was big and bright. The bed was most comfortable being a king size. The views were spectacular and the privacy factor was superb. We were able to park right in front of our cabin. Breakfast was tasty and hit the spot first thing in the morning. Will certainly return.

We had a splendid stay at the Whitford House and would highly recommend it as a lovely place to rest and recharge while exploring the many quaint towns of Southern Vermont! Jeff is very accommodating and was full of wonderful suggestions for our stay, including special hidden gems that we would not have otherwise discovered. The guest cottage was immaculately furnished, quiet, and comfortable, and the local breakfast provided each morning was truly a delight. We enjoyed visiting with Jeff and learning more about the area! Looking forward to returning.
