Ri Kynjai Serenity by the Lake

Beautiful place on the lake!!! This property is unique in the sense that it has a cozy villa vibe as opposed to a resort hotel. The uniqueness is accentuated by the attention paid to decor. Every part of this resort is decorated thoughtfully with unique pieces. The room I stayed in was fantastic - very spacious room with doors that can be opened up to the balcony that overlooks the lake. In warm weather you can literally bring the outdoors into your room. Its an experience by itself to sit on the verandah outside the dining room that overlooks the lake and have a drink from the bar. There is a large gazebo on the property that also overlooks the lake. The grounds are beautiful and its well worth spending time strolling around. The service in all respects is top notch. Would love to come back with family and spend more time here. A couple of suggestions for the management: 1. The lobby area and the areas when you step out of the rooms smells strongly of food. Not sure what causes it - but it will be better to not have that 2. I asked for a local dish from the restaurant for dinner one night - that was not so great. The other food for breakfast and dinner was good 3. Consider starting breakfast a little earlier - at least 7 AM as opposed to 7.30 AM. 4. The public road outside that is used to approach the property is in bad shape. Not the property's fault, but hope that is improved. Overall great place - highly recommended. Good job by the management.

I often visit this property with my family as it is the easiest getaway from Guwahati with an amazing location. The property is well maintained and now they have added air conditioners to the lake view cottage which has become a must coz it can get hot especially in summers. Otherwise the rooms are super spacious, cozy and good to just relax. But beyond a day it may become boring as there is nothing else to do.

I stayed in this property on Jan9 and Jan 10,2025.I booked this property three months before after searching various websites andreviews.According to reviews and description from website this five star property should be luxurious and rooms should have amenities as claimed. But I highly disappointed to see that the lake facing suite room in which I stayed is badly maintained.There was few substandard toiletries, smelling quilt,broken tiles,old bath tub, corroded faucets,two ugly oranges.There was a 32 inch size tv in this so called ultra luxury room.Tea kettel was malfunctioning.Tea bags was just basic., ordinary tea cups with non matching small plate..Drinking water of local unknown company.There was a small old carpet and few dim lights in the room.No bathing gowns. This hotel don't organise any recreational or cultural activities. If I compare this property with Hotel centre point (same owner) in Shillong,that is much better. For condition and amenities in room I would give just two star. I would never recommend this property to anyone. Only merit of this property is that it is near lake.

We’re a group of 20+ old college classmates that meet for a 3-4 day retreat every November. The 2024 honour went to Ri Kynjai, aptly named Serenity by the Lake. Constructed in solid wood and stone, it blends in seamless harmony into the forest slope leading down to Umiam Lake, and the view from the cottages (both rooms and balconies) instantly puts you into a happy and contemplative mood. The rooms are insulated well enough that our buzzing party in one room did not disturb the other rooms. The restaurant is excellent - you must try the local Khasi fare such as jadoh, dohsniang, as well as plenty of vegetarian options. Of course, there’s more familiar Indian food also on offer - theme being simple and delicious. The spa offers many options in terms of massage treatments. Do try the Khasi massage - it works on the nerves as well as the muscles, just feels different from the standard Swedish/sports massage. The staff was pleasingly attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Highly recommended any time of year! Had a blast (obviously a lot of it had to do with friends!)

Beautiful place to be. Visited in June this year The rooms are od two types. We booked the separate villas available there Extremely spacious rooms with Beautiful view of umiam lake. Interiors were very pleasing. Good place for both family and couples. Restaurant with a view There's a shop too inside which has quality goods. Lush greenery around A peaceful stay Only thing is walking up and downStairs Little difficult for elderly people for ambulation and movement

Had the most amazing time at Ri Kynjai. From direct reservation (thank you Ms Reena) to welcome, check in, quality of our cottage, breakfast and meals served: everything was just perfect. It was so good that we didn't want to leave the hotel and go to Shillong city. Our lake view cottage had the most breath taking views. One could just sit in the balcony over looking Umiam lake. Breakfast was amazing everyday. The staff is so well trained that it's a delight to interact with them. We slept peacefully as the resort is so quite and serene. They even helped us with a taxi and driver whose services were beyond excellent. I cannot recommend this hotel enough.
