"Having been here some years ago and enjoyed our stay, I booked the venue again. It now has new owners who have clearly invested time, money and a great deal of thought into refurbishing the establishment and putting their individual mark on it. From start to finish we had a superb experience. The Strand room we stayed in was extremely comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was something of a high light, served in the newly created restaurant room, the organisation was meticulous. Although fully booked, the 10 tables were all served with great efficiency whilst still making you feel individually valued. It was also really nice to be served breakfast rather than having to use a buffet system. Great selection of items which set us up for the day ahead. I would not hesitate to return."

"Stayed in Room 2 with sea view. Staff shown us an extremely narrow steep staircase that we struggled to get through door and climb with backpack. Corridors smelt strongly of damp dog that was so bad it was nauseating (and i have a dog). The airfreshners couldn't mask the stench. Room had coffee, tea and a biscuit. Had not used coffee machine. All windows broken and couldn't be closed to eliminate music from bar next door. Bathroom mat stained, basin sink dirty round plug hole, mirror shelf dirty, floor tiles cracked, door had gaps. Constant slamming and banging from pub entrance door, the whole room shuck. This could easily be sorted. The accommodation is so tired and worn its in need of a major revamp. Sorry I won't be returning"

"Six of us stayed in the three-bedroom apartment (Apartment 2) for two nights. It took us around 30 minutes to gain access to the apartment as we had not received an email containing the access codes prior to our arrival. There is barely any phone signal at the property, so we also struggled to contact the owners for assistance. When we eventually entered the apartment, it initially looked lovely and spacious. However, on closer inspection, it was clear that the property was very dirty and in need of a thorough deep clean. Every surface, floor, skirting board and windowsill was grimy and covered in a layer of dust. There were cobwebs in the corners, with hair caught in them, and the windows were so dirty that it was difficult to see through them properly. There were also several maintenance issues. The handle on one of the wardrobe doors was broken, as was one of the window handles. The freezer door was not attached to the cupboard door, which itself was covered in a thick layer of dust. The tiles around the bath were black with mould, and there were unexplained splashes and marks on the radiators and walls. The bedding appeared to be of very poor quality. It was dusty and had a very unpleasant smell, as though it had not been dried properly. There were also visible dirty marks on the duvet covers. The floor inside the wardrobe was covered in dirt, along with dead flies and spiders. The courtyard at the back of the apartment was also disappointing. There was rubbish left in it, no cover over one of the metres, and tin foil had been taped over one of the lights. There is a basic standard of cleanliness and hygiene that should be expected from any hotel or rental property. Unfortunately, this property fell well below that standard. Given that several previous reviews have highlighted similar issues, it is particularly disappointing that these problems do not appear to have been addressed. We left just before the official check-out time, and the person we assumed was the cleaner was already waiting outside and appeared very keen for us to leave. We found this felt rather unprofessional and added to an otherwise disappointing experience. This property has so much potential, as the apartment itself is spacious and could be lovely. Sadly, however, the poor standard of cleanliness, maintenance issues and overall lack of attention to detail made our stay very disappointing."
