The Mitre Inn

Very friendly owner and staff couldn't do enough to make our stay excellent, the food is good and a good choose, would highly recommend.

We had a perfect stay here for us. It is situated in a very rural area near Sherborne. It is a popular pub with locals giving us an opportunity to meet and chat with them. The chef cooks lovely traditional pub food. The landlord could not have been more attentive and obliging.

This is a 'proper' pub with a great a**osphere, well stocked bar, real Pub Grub, and fantastic service I stayed in the Hummingbird room, which was warm and comfortable with lovely white towels and bed linen With a full English breakfast included you couldn't beat the value for money So if you haven't tried it, for a stay or a hearty meal or just a drink, give it a go ....its worth it

This was our second stay (last one two years ago) at this Inn and there has been a change of owner this year. This made no difference to the friendliness and quality of stay. The room was a good size with a decent shower en suite bathroom, tea and coffee (with fresh milk) was provided ( a big plus for me). The evening menu was very good, perhaps there could be some more specials, but what we had was tasty. After a decent night's sleep, a good breakfast. It was very nice and the only thng I would say would be give the guests a menu to choose what they would like. A choice of cereals or fruit might be a nice addition. Without a menu, it is awkward when asked "what would you like" (maybe this is just me??) Apart from that there were no complaints. The new owners were/are very friendly and obviously are making their mark with the inn. There could be changes planned. I would recommend this Inn to anyone travelling down to the coast through Dorset. It is very good value and very comfortable.

Run by a lovely friendly couple who couldn't be more accommodating. Set in an ancient village in a secluded location, a few miles north of Sherborne. Nice comfortable room and great food (the hake and dauphinoise potatoes are the best ever!). Plenty of space both indoors and outdoors for eating and drinking. Highly recommended.

Stayed the weekend here and loved every minute. The accommodation has been sympathetically refurbished to provide a high-quality, clean and fresh experience without detracting from the rustic charm of the location. The food was excellent, even the coeliac in our party was well catered for. The hosts were very approachable and accommodating with nothing being too much trouble. Throughly recommended for a relaxing few days away, they even takes dogs in the shepherds hut. They even tried to undercharge us when we checked out 😄

Stayed here end of April for 2 nights, lovely little pub. Greeted by Cheryl and Alan who were very friendly. Our room was lovely and very homely - with tea, coffee and water all provided. Nice little touches. We ate downstairs in the restaurants as if you are staying there the meals are £10 each only. Gorgeous home cooked food and of a very good quality. Lovely to wake up to sheep baaing in the surrounding fields. Just a very peaceful location.. Breakfast very plentiful and i would imagine locally sourced. Would definitely recommend and very very reasonable.

We stayed in the Shepherd's Hut which was so comfortable, lovely decor, warm with a cosy wood burner and fully functioning bathroom with great shower. Separate from the pub, so really peaceful with beautiful views and really private though just a very short walk to the pub to enjoy wonderful ales and home made delicious food. Cheryl and Allen made us so welcome and we enjoyed fabulous service throughout our stay. Nothing is too much trouble and they really want to make sure you are enjoying yourselves and have everything you need. Great location for walking and cycling in beautiful countryside. We can't wait to return!

This was our local while staying in the area, and we couldn't have wished for better! We visited with our two boys (10 and 8) and our dog, and were given such a lovely welcome. The food was fantastic - we enjoyed wagyu burgers, ham and chips, beef and ragu, and the Sunday roast beef dinners we had were frankly the stuff of dreams. Everything was perfect from start to finish, and the hosts are such lovely people too. We can't wait to be back to visit again in future. If you ever find yourself thinking about a perfect Sunday pub roast (I do), the Mitre Inn is the place you'll find it.
