Hosteria Don Elias

I arrived late, around 11pm, after a long flight and then a tortuous taxi ride from Quito to be met by a hearty welcome (in Spanish) and was shown to my room where I thankfully collapsed into a very comfortable bed. The room was a good size and the ensuite basic but fully functional. The next morning I was given a very tasty breakfast with fruit, juice and lashings of coffee. I was transferring to the Yana Cocha wildlife reserve later in the afternoon and was allowed to keep my room until the taxi came for me at 4pm (the hotel arranged the taxi for me). My stay coincided with the WC final so I watched this with a group of very enthusiastic Ecuadorian fans - quite an experience. The staff at the hotel were lovely and the hotel itself a great place to stay if only for one night in my case. It would be a 10 or so minute taxi ride into Puyo and there were no other facilities nearby that I could see. The hotel is also near a main road so does experience some road noise but I did not find it intrusive. Good choice as a springboard for visiting the Amazon jungle nearby.
