This was my first trip to The Gambia and it was literally a first trip whereby I tripped over, broke and cracked my two front teeth after falling flat on my face! After exiting the restroom located within the foyer. I tripped over a metal frame positioned at ground level. Not to the same degree as me, I know that other guests have had near experiences when leaving this restroom (see picture. I shudder to imagine what would have happened if this had been an elderly person or a parent with a baby. It is for several reasons that I would never recommend this hotel: A) No matter the nation, health and safety should always come first and be the priority in any hotel establishment. I cannot even begin to count the number of times I have heard someone say, ”Well, this is Africa.” No justification! After my experience, no precautions were made to ensure that other guests wouldn't have the same experience. In fact, the hotel manager wrote: ‘It is important to note that the hotel never have any reported incident from any guest, neither staff since the establishment of this resort in 2020’. The fact that I experienced it and reported it does not imply that no one else has ever tripped or had near miss experiences, even though you may not have had any reports. B) The general manager has some serious communication problems (once you manage to find him), such as a lack of empathy and an inability to listen to others. I am unable to be name him owing to legal concerns, but his middle name should be ”Avoidance.” C) Periods of no power occur frequently. This happened almost every night during our stay since their generator shuts down due to an overload of power and overheating. One evening, as my mother and I were getting ready for an event, we had to use our cell phone lights as a guide. Moreover, when this happens, there isn't any water available for a shower. Also, no functioning primary shower head, had to utilise the hose, whenever there was water available. D) One could not have a private moment since the bathroom door would not stay closed. Thank goodness my mum was with me. E) Someone managed to use their hotel room key to get into our room one night (mistakenly), the lock had to be changed. Yes, that did in fact occur! F) Though I wasn't expecting the Ritz, I would have expected it too at least be kept up, despite the attractive photographs on the website. This review is from a sincere individual. Though I don't usually post reviews, I felt compelled to write this review because I don't want anyone to experience what I did or am currently experiencing. I also regret that I was unable to shorten my stay. I am utterly disappointed because this was also my first trip to West Africa!
Kombo Beach Resort

This was our first time in Gambia and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Kombo Beach Resort is undergoing refurbishment with one new block due to be completed in a few months though you could not hear any noise. We were in Block A which I believe was done last year. Everything was new and in good working order but the quality of the finishing could definitely have been better. As per many of the other reviews, the staff are all very friendly and eager to help. A special thanks to the bar and restaurant staff but especially Terema for her attentive service. As vegetarians there was plenty of choice for breakfast with one Indian speciality each morning. The choices in the evening were quite limited for us on some days but the chefs Shankar and Bhagwan prepared something for us every day. At one lunch, Bhagwan was making Momos but these were all non veg. The next day, he specifically made vegetarian ones for us. Shankar even made us Aloo Paratha for breakfast on the day we left and packed some for the flight back. This definitely made us feel special and are so grateful to them. As vegetarians it would be more helpful if the labelling of the food was better with maybe a green V sticker to indicate what is suitable for vegetarians. The hotel is in a great location right on the beach and the weather at this time of year is perfect. It's very pleasant most of the time but can get hot between midday and 4pm but thankfully hardly any mosquitos! Thank you to Victor and his team for a lovely relaxing time at the hotel.

As this was our 5th trip to the Gambia we weren’t expecting 5 stars but these apartments are absolutely shocking. We booked a standard room as all photos on first choice n Tui were exactly the same. We arrived late on 13/12/2024 and was put in room A6 on opening the door the musky smell hit you and the stained bed sheets were appalling, the guy that showed us the room told us to go to reception next morning as no one usually stays in there and always upgrades, asked to hire a fridge an that came smelling worse than the room so had to clean it out before using it. Went to reception next morning n was told we had to pay to upgrade to a deluxe room so we did. The deluxe room was probably a standard but at least it had bath towels n smelt a lot nicer. Went for breakfast which was very poor compared to other apartments we have stayed in previously, there were few glasses for juice which you had to wait for other guests to finish so the staff could wash them n bring them back out. Next stop after breakfast was the pool which was clean and very well kept around pool area n gardens. Asked for a coke with ice at bar and they didn’t have any glasses and was told to go to reception and ask for some which we did, the reception staff looked at us stupid and said they didn’t have any so we went around a few supermarkets and finally found some and bought 2. Took them to the bar and staff were so apologetic and embarrassed that we had to do that, reported it to the rep nxt day who claimed no one had reported this but according to other guests they all had. The manager hung in the background and the rep said he would sort it but no glasses appeared during our stay and so many guests complained. As I stated to the rep a glass to drink out of is not a luxury it’s a basic need and considering what we paid to stay there you would expect to get a glass. We ate once at the restaurant and asked for mayonnaise which was brought in a little dish half way through my meal a member of staff come and asked if I had finished with it n gave it to another guest so good job I hadn’t dipped my chicken chips or fingers in it . Two or three salt n pepper on the breakfast table so you were constantly asking to borrow it off other guests and tomato ketchup was given on request and taken straight back once you had squirted it. This review has no reflection on the hard working staff there they are only following the manager’s order but come on if you are going to treat guests like that you shouldn’t be a manager. Xmas eve was an eyeopener plush tables, chairs n decorations brought in absolutely amazing buffet and entertainment all free of charge which I would rather have paid for and have the basics the most of the holiday just don’t make sense. What made our holiday was the lovely hard working Gambian’ staff who get paid very little and the lovely guests we meet like a little community around the pool everyone looking out for each other. Will definitely return to Gambia but defi
