Seems that Iberostar have taken some cost cutting measures since we last stayed in one, albeit that was pre Covid. We hadn’t stayed at this particular Iberostar hotel before, but have in others. Reception staff were ok, but some seemed to have an attitude when making some requests, for example getting towels when the place at the pool was closed ( seemed odd that the towel hut at the pool was only open for 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon). I asked one receptionist about a late check out to which I got a smug smile to say it wasn’t possible as they were full, but speaking to another receptionist I managed to get 2pm for an additional €35. They advertise up to 6pm check out for €55 but apparently the cleaner can’t stay that late (isn’t it the additional cleaning hours that the extra €55charge covers?). Bedrooms are small but comfortable, and clean. Food and Beverage quality is mixed, the buffet was ok, but the meat quality very poor. The drinks selection is small, particularly the wine is lacking. There is only a choice of house wine, which comes in branded hotel bottles and is always pre opened…are these bottles refilled from a central vat? The quality is poor. The ‘a La carte’ restaurants are impossible to book less than 3 days in advance unless you make a fuss, then they seem to fit you in. It’s odd though that when dining, they aren’t fully booked at all. I understand the need to stagger arrivals to keep the pressure off the kitchen, but the tables aren’t turned, so the restaurant sits half empty. That was the case for both the Spanish and Greek restaurants when we dined. The food isn’t what you would call complicated, so I think they could accept a significantly higher number of guests in the outlets. The Spanish food was all very bread heavy. And the Greek was very, very poor. The ossobucco was tasteless and chalky, the spanakopita was soggy, though the chips were good. Some of the facilities were closed for our stay, which was not highlighted to us on check in despite a long and drawn out check in process, for example the indoor pool and grill buffet restaurant were both closed. We were also expecting more from the mini disco for our daughter, but it was either some songs played on the big screen or nothing on at all, what happened to the kids entertainment and starkey and stella? Some bar staff were decent, some were less welcoming. I do find it somewhat disingenuous when a member of staff starts a conversation, asks questions about where you are from etc, is very friendly but then hands you a card with a QR code on so you can write a review about them on Google or tripadvisor. This isn’t the way to get genuine positive reviews!! But I assume they are incentivised on this!? Overall I would say lower your expectations and you’ll have a reasonable stay. I wasn’t asked on departure if I enjoyed the stay, so I could not tell them this face to face. I generally write very positive reviews on here, but feel compelled to share thi
