Selfoss Hostel

The receptionist was great. Everything was really clean. Over All the experience was great. For the price it is so good and close to miðbær selfoss eitch is so nice walking distance to for example restaurants swimming pool and ice cream shop

I have stayed here previously 5 years ago and returned again this February. It’s in a very handy location with easy access to supermarkets and restaurants locally. This served as a perfect base for us to travel around the golden circle and to other parts of the island. The positives are that it is conveniently located, its generally quite clean with good facilities, notably the large communal kitchen. The rooms are adequate. And finally it is very affordable. The negatives are that this place has not changed in any way since i last stayed, even so much as the pictures in the kitchen are still wonky (not a big deal) . The main negative for me was the poor choice of pillows, they have certainly exceeded their life expectancy and need replaced. If they are replaced id be delighted to come and stay again, however my heart sank a little when i saw the pillows were the same as 2019.

The hostel is self check in and sends instructions prior. We had a twin room which was small but clean. The bathrooms were ok - they did not look overly clean and being joined shower/toilet in one room meant that you had to wait twice as long to use either facility. Our room was located accross the hall which meant we heard every time someone went to the bathroom. I don't think it would've made a difference being at the end of the hall - the walls are thin and the hall echoes. We could hear everything from outside the room - anytime someone spoke (espcially lots of people forgetting their etiquette and having very loud phone calls in the hallway instead of the common areas). The kitchen has good cooking facilities and basic supplies (salt, pepper, oil, coffee) and plenty of space to make meals. During our stay it was being used by a tour group which meant that the kitchen was mostly taken over by them and their supplies and although they were friendly it was a little uncomfortable as they were taking over the whole space.

Ich bin von diesem Hostel leider sehr enttäuscht. Vorneweg: Es mag an dem Zimmer liegen, das ich bekommen habe, Andere habe ich nicht gesehen. Selbst für diesen Preis erwarte ich, dass kein Schimmel im Zimmer ist (s. Bild). Auch war das Zimmer direkt neben einem Fahrstuhl, den man die ganze Nacht laut gehört hat (Stromversorgung?). Es war allgemein sehr hellhörig, was in einem Hostel für 1-2 Nächte nicht so schlimm wäre, wenn das Zimmer nicht direkt an den Gemeinschaftsraum mit TV anschließen würde. Vielleicht sollte man das Zimmer einfach in einen Besenschrank umfunktionieren und nicht Leuten zum Übernachten anbieten. Die Lage passt, alles was man benötigt, ist in Gehweite. El proceso de recepción es automático. Te envían un código para abrir la puerta principal y en el mostrador de recepción se encuentra tu tarjeta y tu factura. Las instalaciones son adecuadas, con los baños compartidos en buen estado y limpios. La habitación (en mi caso, una individual, era muy espartana, con una base de enchufes, pero sin estanterías ni armarios para colocar mis cosas. Sólo una silla y una cama. La cocina/comedor compartidos son muy útiles para evitar pisar más restaurantes de la cuenta. Hay dos grandes neveras donde dejar tus alimentos, así como un par de cocinas, hornos, horno microondas, hervidor de agua, y todos los utensilios que se puedan necesitar para cocinar. También hay un gran espacio de mesas, para desayunar o cenar en buenas condiciones.
