La Maison Du Notaire Royal

I have been to this area three times, I have stayed at a hotel in La Roque Gageac, at a castle hotel, and a boutique B/B in Sarlat but I like this place the best and the only one I have returned and plan to return on my next trip. The house is wonderfully historic and atmospheric, comfortable and perfectly located with easy car access (and parking) on one side and a direct access to the medieval city square on the other side. The main square is literally steps from this place. Our room this time has a balcony that we can sit and enjoy coffee overlooking the square with the the Wednesday market going on. The beds are comfortable and the baths are nice. I have stayed in the downstairs suite and the upstairs room. We like the upstairs better . The downstairs suite is large but a little too dark for us. The house is made of 3 houses built between 400 to 600 years ago. The house is well insulated and the temperature in the house is very comfortable even without any fan or AC while it was hot outside (we stayed there in end of June in 2023 and mid June this year). Breakfast is great, we look forward to it everyday, fresh baguette, the best croissant, OJ, great strong coffee, all in a beautiful dining room with windows overlooking the town. There were no eggs or bacon but we did not miss them, and its so good and generous that we were able to skip lunch on most of our 5 days there recently. The house also has a nice garden with tables that one can use for picnic. There were also microwave, hotpot, fritz, utensils etc... for guest use, a nice touch. However, the best part of our stay is the warm welcome and kindness from the host Monsieur Toulemon. If you go there, pls do study his tour book (in each room and you can take with you during your stay), it gives very thoughtful suggestions of the well known as well as little/unknown places that are not on any guidebooks.

This place was so beautiful. Every room is full of antique furniture and lovely touches that made our stay in Sarlat feel like a journey into the past. The building itself is of some historical significance being once the home of the royal notary of Sarlat. Our room had a comfortable bed and a large, artisanal wooden table where we read and drank juice. Monsieur Toulemon was very accomodating and communicative. We really appreciated the outside space where we took the lunches we bought fresh from the city market just a minute away. We stayed in several places in Sarlat, and in Perigord in general, and this was by far our favorite. The croissants in the morning were chewy, the coffee hot, and the center of Sarlat mere meters out the door!

The hotel and the owner, Pierre Henri, are so very warm and welcoming for a medival castle/home. The history of the building and the old town is fascinating. It was a magical vacation. Our family can't wait to return.

Nos alojamos en junio para visitar la zona. la casa es impresionante, en realidad son tres casas juntas muy antiguas que están situadas en el mismo centro de Sarlat. Nuestra habitación era muy espaciosa y tenia un balcón con vistas a la plaza. Además hay un parking gratuito a escasos 100 metros, que es muy conveniente. A destacar la atención de Pierre-Henri, quién nos aconsejó una ruta por sitios poco conocidos del Perigord, pero super interesantes. En definitiva, una muy buena elección para alojarse en la preciosa ciudad de Sarlat la Caneda

Idéalement situé à 40 m de la place de la Liberté ( place centrale du vieux Sarlat) sans aucune contrainte de stationnement puisque le gite offre un garage voitures et/ou motos. L’accueil est sympathique avec une présentation de l'histoire de la maison et du vieux Sarlat à proximité. La chambre, spacieuse, confortable avec une grande salle de bain a répondu à nos attentes. Le petit déjeuner est copieux. Il faut prendre le temps d'échanger avec M Toulemon, intarissable sur Sarlat, ses environs. il sait suggérer des visites qui ne sont pas toujours mise en valeur dans les guides touristiques et qui pourtant en valent la peine. Bref à conseiller sans modération. (Pour les motards, M Toulemon est un passionné des deux roues)
