To start with the positives... Goss Hall is a beautiful house in amazing grounds. Our room (and the whole B&B) were very clean, the grounds and the lake are stunning. It's very easy to see why wedding parties have stayed here in the past. Dogs are welcome for a small extra fee and, with it being a very wet weekend, umbrellas can be borrowed! We both slept very well on a really comfy bed and the shower was very good. Now, the not-so-positives... The website advertises the B&B as 'luxury'. For a fairly punchy nightly rate of £155 I'd expect a couple of additions that just weren't there - the selection of hot drinks was quite basic, with instant coffee, tea and no mint/fruit tea options. Some of the floor tiles in the en-suite bathroom were loose and the toilet leaked for around 10 minutes after flushing. Small details that would be seen to in a luxury B&B. When we left I handed the key back and wasn't asked how our stay was, instead I just got a 'bye'. Not a huge deal but a small touch that shows guests you care about their experience. The biggest disappointment was the breakfast. Some of the photos show cooked and fresh options on a menu - these are no longer offered, but the photos showing the menu haven't been removed and Goss Hall have not made this clear on their website. The offering of freshly prepared options was one of the reasons why I booked and to hear they were no longer available was disappointing. Instead we got a continental style offering which was OK - the fruit was nice but the pastries, bagels and croissants weren't anything special. Considering the nightly rate, and the fact that breakfast is only served for an hour, I'd expect some fresh options to be available and consider the continental offering to be inadequate. Offering freshly made breakfast items and reducing the continental offering would also help prevent waste. Toast was available and the warming of bagels and croissants was offered but it seemed like the kitchen either wanted to save money, an easy life or both. I could forget all other small issues if there was a good fresh breakfast option! Overall, our stay was an enjoyable one and Stacey was a great host. With a few minor upgrades Goss Hall could go from being simply 'good 'to fantastic.
