Premier Inn Northwich (Sandiway)

This hotel is what it says on the tin. I stayed here for a trip with work for two weeks recently. The staff were very accommodating and the rooms were very clean. The bed was one of the comfiest I’ve ever slept on!! The only downside was that the pub next door had to close their kitchen due to the weather causing issues with the roof which made it difficult to find places to eat due to the location of the hotel but by all means this was not the hotels fault.

Handy location but the hotel is dated and really needs some refurbishment. The staff are great and the breakfast at the Blue Cap is also very good. The rooms look tired and the bathrooms are very old and need to be ripped out and replaced… but it is clean and very functional.

Location was within three miles of relatives living in Northwich. The hotel was recommended to us by these relatives for being close.

From the moment my boyfriend, sister and I walked into reception to check in we were judged by two sour-faced middle aged women who didn't even greet us. They were rude and unwelcoming. We were staying the weekend for a festival but I made a mistake with the room booking thinking a family room would be ideal for us three to stay in, this wasn't do-able, which I didn't realise and instead of helping us the women barked at me that having 3 adults together "IS ILLEGAL AND AGAINST THE HOTEL RULES". They then said we can only book another room but said there was no availability except one room "which will be expensive ". That is literally all they said and their idea of 'helping'. We were then brushed to the side so the women could check in a couple behind us. I am still dumbfounded and shocked at the treatment we received here. My boyfriend had to find alternative accommodation which was very inconvenient and stressful for us as we were going to a festival that day together and had already been travelling for 3 hours to reach the hotel. It was the most stressful and aggravating stay of my life.

With a Premier Inn you’re not expecting The Ritz, however, you’re not really expecting Linton Travel Tavern off of Alan Partridge either. Staff were lovely, happy to help & assisted a speedy check in! Room was clean, however that’s all there is to it, and is the saving grace! Room decor was tired and in need of renewal to bring up to standard to other Premier Inns. Very basic, no air conditioning, quite warm at night to sleep and it wasn’t even that warm a night! All the walls had marks on and furniture was just tired. Bathroom basic but clean, again could do with renewal due to wear and tear over time. Bath nice and big though. Still had a yale lock & key system to enter the room, not a normal card system like most. Although not really much of an issue you don’t really see that anymore these days & would be annoying if you was sharing with someone else who may not have been coming back to the room the same time as you. Would not mind all of the above if it was fairly priced, however at an average of £135 a night stay, I’ve paid less for Premier Plus rooms at other hotels in more desirable areas. I just feel it was not worth that at all and took advantage of events happening in the area that weekend we stayed. The nature of this review is not directed at any of the staff or management team at that hotel as I don’t really feel it is their problem to renew, refurbish or price the rooms.

We were attending a wedding at Cheshire Woodland Weddings just across the road. Perfectly located for us, Staff were really friendly & helpful. Hotel was very clean & good value. Would definitely recommend.
