Hotel in zona La Grande Ruota Di San Raffaele, Saint-Raphaël

We moved out of another hotel and was desperately looking for another place to stay. We were lucky to have found this small hotel just of the main busy street, yet walking distance to the beach, shops and restaurants. Rooms and linen were clean. Fresh white towels provided. Vanessa our host went out of her way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. She offered us a room (last minute) exactly fitting to our needs. She did her best to organise suitable spa times and made some useful recommendations on restaurants. The quaint little breakfast with freshly pressed juice exceeded our expectations. Thank you very much Vanessa for making this a memorable experience.

The hotel is in a fairly quiet back-street in Saint-Raphael, close to the border with Frejus. It is less than half a kilometre from Saint-Raphael Valescure station and a similar distance from the main beach in Frejus, and the nearby seafront has a very big selection of restaurants, snack bars, ice cream shops and other amenities. The hotel itself is clean, peaceful and has good air conditioning for when the temperature is high (as it was during my stay). Breakfast is included, with a good selection of cereals, bread, croissants, sliced meats etc. I had no problems during my stay, so had no reasons to speak to reception, but each of the receptionists on duty were cheerful and pleasant to speak to. The main door is locked between 12 noon and 3pm, and again after 8pm, but the card which unlocks your room door also unlocks the front door to get in during those times. The only minor criticism that I would make is that there was no wardrobe in my room. However, there was a rack to hang clothes on, and a shelf to store smaller items, so it was possible to keep my clean clothes separate from the ones I had used.

Soggiornato una sola notte. Staff disponibile e una signora parlava anche un po' in italiano. Camere spaziose e pulite ma senza armadio e abbastanza sguarnite. Io viaggiavo in moto e ci hanno lasciato mettere le moto davanti all'hotel che comunque ha un parcheggio gratuito ma puoi accedere solo dopo il ceckin che non viene fatto prima delle 14. Non ho capito perchè avevamo 1 solo asciugamano per il viso e 2 per la doccia (ed eravamo ovviamente in due in camera e non è che uno vuole fare il pretenzioso ma se ho sempre trovato il kit completo però fermandomi solo una notte ho lasciato perdere) In camera c'è la possibilità di farsi il caffè o il te ma ovviamente solo una volta poi le cialde sono da comprare. Dopo una certa ora il bar chiude e ti resta solo una macchinetta a monete sguarnita di tutto. La posizione non è proprio strategica anche le spiagge non sono vicinissime.

Sembra di stare in una villa privata degli anni d’oro. Ampio parcheggio gratuito. Bella l’area piscina, design moderno con il tocco primi del ‘900 delle palme. Tutto perfetto e affascinante, hotel ristrutturato con stile, camere belle e confortevolissime. Il titolare è gentilissimo e da’ molti consigli preziosi per escursioni nei dintorni. Grazie ad una sua dritta abbiamo fatto una splendida passeggiata sui calanchi di roccia rossa a pelo d’acqua partendo dal porto di Saint Lucie (consigliatissima) e un’altro giro panoramico sul massiccio dell’Esterel. Il soggiorno ad ottobre offre vantaggi inaspettati, parcheggi e spiagge liberi e gratuiti, pace, silenzio e, col bel tempo, nelle ore centrali, la possibilità di prendere il sole e fare anche un bagno in acque cristalline. Consiglio: vestitevi a cipolla, dal costume da bagno + pantaloncini + leggings+ pile+ piumino 100 per sfruttare tutti i momenti del giorno. Unico dubbio, ma mi sembra un trend diffuso fra gli hotel di design,: manca un vero armadio che è costituito da un piccolo contenitore dove non è possibile appendere un abito per intero. Anche la colazione molto buona ma pagata come extra a 18 euro a persona. sembra essere caratteristica della Costa Azzurra per cui non la metto fra gli svantaggi.

L'hotel è ben segreto e tranquillo. Facile accesso con parcheggio sotterraneo e superficiale. Il personale è molto amichevole. È prestata la dovuta attenzione alla ricezione e alla spiegazione. Ma. L'hotel è obsoleti. I danni non riparati possono essere trovati in molti luoghi. L'interno è obsoleti. E anche il tessuto, oltre ad essere da un'altra era, è sporco e indossato. Le tende sono dilapidate e l'interno datato. Non c'è frigorifero nella stanza. La piscina è piacevole. Ma purtroppo la parete del vetro non è molto bello. Un po' più pavimentazione sarebbe stata anche migliore a nostro parere. Distribuire le tovaglie alla piscina sarebbe stato un plus anziché distribuirle nella stanza. Inoltre, anno 2024 una rete perfetta in termini di wifi è un must. Questo punteggio è stato semplicemente 0. Ditto per 4G/5G. Lunga storia breve. Rinovare questo edificio. Modernizzare. Aumentare il prezzo e nel lungo periodo, quindi sia i clienti che il personale saranno vincitori.

The Hotel cannot have 5 stars: room are too small, the shower was a cement-tube IN the room and the water was going around at each shower. The day restaurant had a ridiculously small menu. We asked for Tomato Penne, and we asked them “ al dente “ and my husband requested an abundant portion. We had been informed that we had to pay a supplement of Eur 12. We were surprised ( it was not truffle..,just tomato pasta ) but we accepted. We had back a dish with the most overcooked pasta , completly broken, we had in our life. They left the same quantity of souces than the regular portion so…the past was almost white instead of red and it had the consistency of mashed potatoes : at the end the pasta was offered because to be honest it was inedible. One day we arrived at breakfast at 9.20 : crepes were finished on the buffet. We asked for them and the answer was…come back tomorrow. The day after , at 8.30 there were not crepes and pancake: probably the food budget were finished! These kind of things normally happen at a 2 star hotel. We left almost 50 Eur at day in tips because people were really very kind even if not always skilled for their job in some case. We spend 8 nights in this hotel and we did a huge mistake. It is ok for a week end not for an holidays. The location was great but even the Hotel’s name was misleading: the hotel Les Roches Rouges is AFTER the red rocks! With a different food offer, different shower arrangement, it can become a nice 4 stars boutique hotel. Currently, is waste of money and …by the way…no Tv in the room …to replicate the 60ies atmosphere…mmmmhh
