My husband and I were in the south of France for three weeks, traveling around to various small towns, but making one location our "hub" for 3-4 night. In this area, we selected to stay in St-Paul-de-Vence having been to the town before and we knew that we wanted to stay at Hotel Le Saint Paul, having seen the lobby from the outside. Our selection could not have been more spot on and our stay could not have been more perfect. The hotel is in the center of the old city and driving into the hotel the first time, with its narrow streets and small passages, was a little nerve racking...but after the first time, entrance/departure from the hotel was a breeze. Their valet parking takes care of everything! The physical space of the building is amazing and I'm sure hundreds of years old...but all updated, modern and comfortable while still maintaining its historic charm. I've read some reviews about the hotel being "tired" or "bland" or "not maintained"....I don't know where those people were staying, but as a former hotel owner, this hotel is in A-1+ shape! Our room, #36 on the third floor", was spacious, airy, lovely decorated and exceptionally comfortable....so much so, we spent most afternoons of our 4-night stay just hanging out in the room, enjoying the atmosphere. The bathroom was beautiful, with double sinks, separate shower and tub, bidet, towel warmer, hairdry...and everything else one could hope for! The rain shower was exceptional and the water pressure and temperature (sometimes a problem in older buildings!) was excellent on both accounts. We arrived early, so our room wasn't ready until 3 pm (which, actually was closer to 2:15 when they were ready for us) so we were greeted by Paul in the Lobby. The lobby was wonderful with exceptionally comfortable chairs, toilets, water table and an amazing view from the window. And Paul, like all of the staff, immediately made us feel at home and welcome. He, like everyone on the staff, took exceptionally great care of us, always stopped to talk with us and were professional and knowledgable about where to go and what to visit. The hotel also has a restaurant where we had every one of our breakfasts and even a lunch. The food was fresh, pastries amazing and eggs beautifully prepared every morning. While the hotel's facilities were exceptional, the staff really were the stars of the show. Every person on the front desk was spectacular, every person working in the restaurant was helpful and friendly and even the housekeeper always greeted us everyday and asked how we were doing and if we needed anything. Now THAT's Relais & Chateaux service!!! I've read with confusion some of the other recent reviews for this hotel, whose guest obviously were staying close to the 4+ days we were there. Obviously, every person has their own experiences. But clearly, these negative comments do not speak to our experience nor any of the experiences from the other guests that we spoke with during our sta
