Hemingway House Bed and Breakfast

We booked The Hemingway because of its location, the pictures on your booking site and the excellent breakfast! On arrival at The Hemingway, the office was in the next door property “Inn at Charlotte”. This is where we had breakfast on the two mornings of our visit. The photographs on this site for The Hemingway and Inn at Charlotte have no bearing on these properties and very misleading. The pictures need to be updated on this site as they are advertising under false pretences. The place and decor are very tired and needs updating. We were in the outbuilding and above the garages out the back. We couldn’t unpack our cases as there was no room. The only hanging spaces provided were coat hooks on the back of two doors. Unfortunately we didn’t bring any coat hangers so our suitcases had to be pushed under the bed at night so that we had floor space to manoeuvre. We couldn’t fault the showers. Self service tea and coffee at the Inn at Charlotte. Nothing in the room other than bottled water. Breakfast starts at 8:30 in the morning and consisted of orange juice, water, melon/yoghurt served in a small glass bowl and half a waffle with some fruit which was very presented with two sausages. This is all served at your table. No toast or pastries. The second day the breakfast was late and we started with a small glass of peach soup and then followed egg benedict on a crumpet with a small piece of ham and bacon. The crumpet was very hard to cut and i couldn’t eat mine. No choice for breakfast. I am confused when i read that they serve excellent breakfast… We stopped at Cracker Barrel within the hour of leaving to have a decent breakfast.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Check in was easy. The location was awesome….walking distance to George St, restaurants and the Fort etc... The free parking was a bonus. So many similar B and Bs and hotels in the historic district charge extra for parking. Once you park you can walk all over. The Room was nice and super clean and beds comfortable. The evening reception was much appreciated. Breakfast and coffee were good. My only suggestion to the owners would be to install at least one USB outlet or lamp with USB in the unit. It would be so inexpensive to do but make a big difference for some travelers. I still haven’t seen all of St Augustine. I’m definitely coming back and would stay here again for sure.

04/06/24 - 04/12/24 - This Bed and Breakfast was great, we had the whole first floor, the place was clean, and by the pictures it seems the rooms and outside have been repainted white. We had a sitting room, dinning room, bathroom, and bedroom. Had free coffee and tea all day. We needed to go next door for the morning breakfast, it was different each day, but it was good. the staff were excellent. Connie was great, very helpful. I highly recommend this place.

Initial contact on check in was informative and helpful since our key pad would not open our door. Breakfast was disorganized and late. We were traveling and hoped to have breakfast before leaving but no one was even there to prepare anything at 8:20 am. We also noticed ants in the bathroom which we reported on check out. Our room overlooked the next door wine bar restaurant and it was noisy at night. We were told we would be credited $20.00 for AAA but it wasn’t extended to us. For the price we paid our stay was a bit disappointing.

We just stayed there for the weekend, Friday and Saturday. When I booked the room I booked a room that would have a parking space on site. I booked room 10 and parking space 10 was designated to us. Parking is complimentary but not all rooms have parking on site so we specifically chose a room that would have one. The first night we parked in our spot, no problem. The next morning we took the car because we went out to explore. At 5pm I was called that the owner of the house took my space and that now we need to park at a different lot a block and half away. I was not happy and asked to speak to the manager. Then the story changed and I was told it was not the owner but a random person. I asked them can they tow that car away like it states in the policy and they said no, that I would have to park away. I was super upset and asked to refund the night and that we would go somewhere else. They said no, therefore we had to stay because I did not want to lose the money. The next morning we wanted to leave, checkout is at 11 am. The cleaning lady came into our room at 8:30 am without knocking or announcing herself, just walked in. Luckily we were dressed and packing but it was very rude to do so being its just a small room. All I can say that they made the end of our trip very unpleasant with the lying and rudeness of the whole situation. NEVER again will be ever stay there and definitely don't recommend anyone to stay there.

Much different then my last bed and breakfast many years ago... let me see from cheesy TP to broken toilet seat to bad mattress and flat pillows. It was a particularly noisy time as well with the boom box cars past midnight driving through to show their wares. It was just okay, but if youre expecting a BnB experience with quality for $250/day, forget about it. The location is great if that's what you want... its the reason we booked. Would not again.

Staff is very polite, accommodating & genuinely nice. Accommodations were as expected & we enjoyed our stay. Was there 3 nights & thoroughly enjoyed the different breakfast each morning. We will stay there again when in St Augustine! You can’t go wrong with either the Hemingway House or the Charlotte Inn which are conveniently located in the Old Historic District & in walking distance of many historic sites, shops, restaurants, & bars. 😃

A lovely bed and breakfast with the BEST customer service and staff. They made us feel so welcome and cared for. They work so hard!! This location is right in the middle of everything, just a very short walk to St. George Street. The morning breakfast and afternoon wine service were so nice. Definitely reccomend.

The location was perfect and within walking distance to everything. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff was very friendly. Happy hour in the evenings and a great breakfast rounded this out to be the perfect place for our 44th anniversary. We will definitely be staying there again on our nest visit.
