Hotel Allalin Saas-Fee

Excellent hotel. Fantastic service, amazing restaurant, convenient location. Stayed for a week and would love to come back !!

Sometimes you can't put your finger on what you're really looking for from your hotel. However, Hotel Allalin has set a standard that will be difficult for others to match. We stayed for 14 days (booked through Inghams) so have a good experience on which to base this review. Everything from arrival to departure was absolutely perfect. As a car free resort, we were met at the bus station by a member of the team in one of the small electric vehicles which hum around the streets of the town. A couple of minutes later we were checking in. (Walking distance is 5-10mins, slightly uphill.) Whilst not smack bang in the middle of the town, Saas-Fee is small so we found the location to be absolutely fine with a short 5ish min walk to the main area of the shops and attractions. The hotel has a boutique feel and a good size for us... I'd say 50 rooms or so. You rarely bumped into anyone outside of the dining room, never had to wait for the lift or to talk to the team at reception. A very quiet and calming environment. The decor beautifully combines modern and traditional, with original artwork from the hotel family and traditional work carving. Room and public spaces were always spotless. We were incredibly fortunate to have our room upgraded on arrival which was gratefully appreciated. Up on the 4th floor, there was a large living area with bathroom, double bed, chairs, TV and access to the balcony with stunning views of the mountains. Stairs led up to a mezzanine where there was a wardrobe (with safe) and bath with 2x large Velux windows. A door led to a separate bedroom with a double bed, wardrobe and sink. The small details were all ticked off... from the excellent towels to top quality hairdryer! There was no kettle in the room but this was provided on request from reception. Equally there was no mini-bar/fridge - this would have been nice as I'm a sucker for a cold drink (particularly as we benefited from 2 weeks of solid sunshine) but not an issue I was overly bothered about. The room did get warm and as is normal in the Alps, there was no AC... evenings/nights were cool so leaving the windows/balcony open helped - Saas-Fee doesn't seem to have an insect problem so again no worries with this. The food was delicious. Breakfast was plentiful with a typical selection of cereals, fruits and pastries. A selection of fresh loaves were available, so fresh they were still warm. Hot selection was limited to scrambled eggs and bacon. Evening meals were probably the best we've experienced in the Alps... with a starter, choice of 2 soups (typically cream and a broth), salad bar, choice or 2 mains (meat and vegetarian) and a desert. Portion sizes were judged perfectly. On one evening each week we even got to experience a genuine Swiss fondue... a broth fondue in the hotel and a cheese fondue in a neighbouring restaurant. The Allalin hotel is a family run affair (the family can trace their family history in the area back for centuries!) Our bedroom was spacious, modern with a fantastic view of the mountains. We were half board and the food at breakfast and evening was of a high quality, tasty and plentiful. The evening meals were always well presented. (5 courses with choices for 4 of the courses and vegetarians are catered for). All the waiting staff were smiley, happy and efficient. Herr Zurbriggen ( the owner) would come around and have a chat with the guests most evenings which was a lovely touch and made us feel ‘special’. The location of the hotel is just a few minutes walk to the town centre and the Hannig cable car. Saas Fee itself is delightful, still lots of old buildings (wooden huts), cobbled streets ( no cars are allowed in the town. - large car park available and excellent bus service through the Saas valley). Our holiday was a self guided walking holiday and the walks and scenery were simply stunning. Walks catered for all abilities with about 3 cable cars open in Saas Fee and more up and down the valley. Our holiday was for two weeks, we walked every day and chose different routes every day. Recommend the Saas card for unlimited free travel on buses and cable cars in the Saas valley. Apparently Saas Fee has its own microclimate and boast s 300 days sunshine per year. One of our best holidays ever made extra special by staying at the Allalin.

We have stayed at Hotel Allalin twice and are about to go back for a third time! We can't wait! Hotel Allalin is a very welcoming hotel with caring, attentive staff. The rooms are very comfortable and have amazing views. The restaurant is beautiful and the homemade meals are healthy and delicious. I really can't fault this hotel, it is simply wonderful!

I chose this hotel based on the reviews on this site. It was for a special occasion and it was our first visit to Switzerland. Saas fee is an amazing place and the hotel is lovely. The staff are very welcoming, friendly and hardworking. I upgraded to a room with a view and wow! what a view. We love mountains and have visited many countries but these mountains are a different class. The Allalin is perfectly situated to make the most of the surroundings. We don’t ski anymore but we are snow shoe and winter hikers/climbers and Switzerland is amazing for our chosen activities. The food at the hotel is second to none and is plentiful. Although we don’t drink alcohol very much, the drinks prices are on a par with the UK. If you get the chance, go to Zermatt and ride the Gornegrat cog railway up to the top station and see the Matterhorn. The view will blow you away. We fell in love with Switzerland, Saas fee and the Hotel Allalin.

This is a fantastic hotel. The room was super comfortable, very quiet at night, everyone in the hotel is super friendly, the restaurant is spectacular, and the location is great. Highly recommended. We defenitely plan on returning in the near future.
