Tru by Hilton Roanoke Hollins

Not impressed at all. We had the King room and there was barely any room to walk around the bed. If you want a room and have the need for some type of privacy from anyone that would be in the room with you then this is not what you want ! No chest with drawers, no nightstand per say, and if you like to have a tub for children to bathe them in again this is not the place for you. Definitely won’t be staying here again. The only positive is the room and lobby was clean.

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel. Very clean, nice rooms and very helpful front desk staff. Our only disappointment was that the restaurant we wanted to try was closed on Mondays. This is now our go-to hotel on our travels returning to Florida.

Convenient location when heading north as just north of Roanoke. Friendly and courteous staff. Great area to walk after a days ride as there is a Camping World nearby (walking distance) with a huge parking lot. Plenty of room to move about and several restaurants nearby. Breakfast was good, but the worst orange juice ever. Tasted more like fruit pinch and watery. Would stay again.

After a long day of driving, I arrived at this location in the later evening. The front desk clerk was on his phone and didn't realize I was there until I said, "Excuse me. I'd like to check in." Although the process continued quickly, he asked if I would like my water and snack bag (for being an Honors member). When I said "yes", he said that now I'd have to wait because he had to go in the back to find some water. For someone working in the hospitality industry, this welcome to the hotel was not very hospitable. My room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast buffet the next morning was not well stocked or cleaned. I was there before 8am, and it was busy, but no staff member was around. (The front desk clerk was busy with people checking out.) The lobby area where guests eat was also not cleaned. There was a large spill on the floor around a section of tables (not cleaned during my entire time eating), and some food spills around the tables. Although I enjoy the Tru hotels, I would definitely not stay at this location again. I would drive a little further to the one in Wytheville.

This review is about the Tru in Christiansburg Va. I could not pull that hotel up but is just down I-81 from Roanoke. My wife and I were there this past Sunday night. I became sick and decided to try and stay another night. I went to the desk in the morning and asked if we could stay in our room for another night. We had to move to a room 2 doors away and the rate was doubled. I couldn’t argue. In the morning I noticed that our old room wasn’t used. I guess since we changed rooms they were able to double our rate. Gouging at the worst.

I am a Hilton Diamond Member so I spend a lot of time at Hilton properties. I approached the front desk. The front desk clerk did not greet me. He looked up at me as if I were bothering him. I asked him if he had an extra box of facial tissues I could have. He replied, "I do. But I would have to get up and go look for them." I walked away, stunned by the response. Tru, you have to fix this in many of your locations. The service is horrible. I contacted the hotel through the Hilton app afterward. They never responded. Hence the negative review.

After traveling north for a family funeral and a difficult few days, this hotel was very clean and modern with an excellent staff and good hot breakfast. This brand will be our new favorite hotel brand!!

We travel a great deal and stayed in good as well as bad hotels; therefore, provide good as well as bad reviews. For the past several years we’ve selected the Hilton hotel chain as our go-to. This TRU by Hilton Roanoke/Hollins VA hotel was the worst TRU we’ve ever stayed in years. We stayed 5 nights here. Breakfast is available from 6-9 AM, and staff starts pulling food items at 8:45 AM (Saturday morning); therefore, we had to go out to a restaurant for breakfast. The next morning we ate breakfast in the lobby, or tried to. There weren’t many options available at all, very disappointed. In fact they offered the worse food options for any TRU by Hilton we’ve stayed. We traveled 11.5 miles to 'Famous Anthony’s 460’ for breakfast every morning and it was very good with a friendly staff; however, expensive overall and time-consuming. If you want value, find another hotel for a good night sleep and breakfast. Beware of pets. The latest 'Virginia’s Blue Ridge' magazine has this hotel listed as not accepting pets; although they’re listed as 'pet friendly' on Hilton's website. We’ve never seen so many dogs at a hotel before. We have pet allergies, and stayed in what staff recommended as a 'non-pet room', but advised that they can’t guarantee a pet wasn’t in the room. Most TRU by Hilton hotels we’ve stayed have a laundry room for guests, but not this location. Staff advised not to go to a coin laundromat nearby, and provided an address for a safer location farther away. We’d rather provide a great review, but can’t for this location. Look elsewhere.
