I know Marriott is trying to expand their footprint, but buy quality hotels rather than trying to be in every market in the world. Locally this may be a good hotel, but to Marriott worldwide standard this is a bottom level Select level hotel by service standards. The Buenaventura suite is disappointing to the pictures. Large in size but the furnishings are basic. The bed is lot a typical luxury grade at this level and transfers motion for people who toss & turn. Bathroom is large, but shower nozzles are clogged and not fully functional. Maintenance on the room has been lacking and the heavy curtains hung on a regular rod are too heavy to slide and keep falling off. Thermostat resets when you leave the room to a warmer temperature. But that offsets the lack of warm water for showers. It's nice in the afternoon after being in the sun, but annoying when waking up. Room service and housekeeping are also lacking. Just to get a bucket of ice too over an hour in the off season. Housekeeping at a luxury resort is only done if you call the desk to request it for a 6 day stay. And things were lightly cleaned. For the ice requested we also had to ask for the dirty smudged drinking glasses to be replaced. This caused an issue with the maid and we just got more dirty glasses. There's a small market on grounds that is well stocked and we suggest getting any food or drink ware for the room from there. About the resort itself you will find it is a very family oriented facility with loud young kids throughout the areas and all pools. The grounds are nice and well maintained. Except for some trash floating in the ponds. The pools are nice if you go early or late to avoid the families. The majority of the restaurants are average food. We had breakfasts, lunches, and dinners there. Screaming kids are a theme again at breakfast. The staff is slow, but eventual, to get you a coffee or a cocktail at the pool. It's a buffet so you can get what you want. The Criollo is boring average food, Tagua was good tapas and a solid bartender, Cacao bartender didn't know what an Old Fashioned was, Palapa bar had good attentive staff, Tai Kai Sushi was also very good with attentive staff. We ate at the beach pool and the food that came from El Faro was just ok. We had dinner reservations one night and they cancelled them 5 hours before dinner with no reason. It motivated us to go into Panama City to Makoto lucky for us. We stayed at the Sortis in the city for a couple nights even thought we already paid for the disappointing Buenaventura. Our advice is if you want beach, go to another of the resorts at one of the larger beach destinations in Panama.
