We stayed at the Swanendele Inn for just a single night while visiting with our son at St. Mary's College of Maryland. The inn and grounds are charming and the owners and staff are friendly. Breakfast was lovely. It would be nice to have stayed longer.

Beautiful Inn listed in the Select Registry. Small number of rooms still you can occasionally hear your fellow guests. Attentive staff and a delicious three course breakfast. Most local attractions are at least 20 minutes away. Beautiful views with kayaks and canoes for rent.

What a fantastic hidden gem on the Chesapeake Bay. Gerald and Victoria were great hosts and they have created a perfect oasis nestled into one of the most underrated parts of the Chesapeake Bay in St Mary’s County. The room was spotless and the bed was one of the best I’ve slept in recently. The property offered panoramic views of St Jerome’s Creek and the Bay. Breakfast in the morning was the highlight of the stay. We can’t recommend Swanendele highly enough and we will definitely be back.

Great place. Wonderful hospitality. We had three different rooms and all were great (beds, bedding, spotless bathrooms and quality amenities). Rooms, food and hosts were awesome. Only had breakfast as we had other plans during the day. Will surely return!

This is the place you go to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. There is nothing like that in this neighborhood, in fact you’ll question whether you are in the right place or not given the lack of city signs anywhere close. But turn down the driveway and you’ll find this gorgeous place overlooking the Bay and James Creek (if I have my geography correct). Tastefully decorated throughout with pieces from the many world places Gerald and Victoria have been, each with their own stories and history, you’ll be wowed the moment you walk in the door. And then the bedroom, we had the king bed room on the second floor with a giant bathroom, a private walk out deck and wonderfully decorated throughout. The worst thing was that we could only stay ONE NIGHT. Lovely breakfast in the morning and Gerald was kind enough to provide local directions the night before when we pulled in a bit late and hadn’t had dinner yet. Just a fabulous place and one we hope to get back to!

The Swanendele Inn is a place apart in St. Mary's County, Maryland. This beautiful small inn is located on the picturesque St. Jerome's Creek in the Chesapeake Bay. The hosts are welcoming and friendly and the inn is full of a variety of fine artwork that the couple has collected over their many years living and traveling abroad. We stayed for three nights in a comfortable, large, well-apppointed room with stunning water views from each window. The full breakfasts always included one of the hosts' delicious home-made breads. This is not your average B&B by a long shot. It's a first-rate experience with warm hosts and superior accomodations in a beautiful setting. The inn very much lives up to it's owners' motto: 'Come as a guest, leave as a friend'.
