Groundswell Pub & Inn

The setting for this darling Inn is as beautiful as the picture shows. It's right on the water, and my ground floor room was quaint but well-renovated and the views were spectacular. The innkeeper couple that run this place are incredibly nice people, and the food is great!

We ate at the restaurant, outside on the deck, at sunset. It was a beautiful evening and the food was delicious and our server was great! We had the best crab dip ever! And our pasta entrées were incredibly luscious! This was one of the last dinners of our vacation and it was a great way to end our stay in Canada!

Fantastic place to stay. A little off the beaten path, if you are looking for city, stay in the city. This would be top on my list as a gen x'r. I have no doubt the music hops in there. The room was tastefully decorated and clean with a view like no other. The host opened up the dining room even thou it was their night off. Hospitality at its finest. To finish, the owner makes the best damn ceasar I have had yet!

Great two night stay, an ideal stopover on way up to or down from Cape Breton Highland National Park. Very peaceful. Right when we entered our room (Penny Lane) we were struck by how clean and comfortable it felt. Matt is attentive, responsive, and approachable. We ate at the pub both evenings—Colleen is a great cook, the pub has such a great atmosphere. We brought breakfast with us and they were kind enough to lend us bowls, and it was great having coffee in the hall. Our son loved the playground, and we enjoyed just relaxing and looking at boats and water. Next stop we will for sure go kayaking or canoeing; this time it was too windy for us. But either way we will make it a stopover on our future Maritime Islands trip

I’ve had the experience of a few meals at the Groundswell as of late. Each meal we tried was absolutely delicious. We dined on the patio and it had the most relaxing atmosphere and beautiful views of the bay and yachts moored just within view. It’s a young family owned pub and inn and the owners are very hands on and attentive acting as the servers, bartender and cook with a few employees to help out. They really want you to have a great experience at their establishment and that is very evident from the moment you walk in. What a gem of a business on our small island!

Good afternoon, I would like to tell Everyone about my Experience at The Groundswell in D’Escousse on Friday May 5/2023 We arrived to check in around 5:45 pm and met the Owner, Matt. He took me to our room which was The White Room. It was a cold day in Cape Breton and he hadn’t turned the heat up in the room and it was a late check in. Matt said I’ll turn it on now and it won’t take long to heat up and left. Then I unpacked the car and couldn’t get the TV to work, so I called Matt. He came and informed us that there was no Cable, just using ROKU and I asked him if he could please turn CTV News it was 6:15 pm. He said he wasn’t familiar with finding different programs and he didn’t have time to look for that. He offered us a Firestick from his children’s room, we’re Seniors, so I told him that wouldn’t help much. He informed us that he was short on staff and had to go. He wanted to tend to the Bar and didn’t seem much interested in helping Us. Then my husband went to shave and we couldn’t get hot water in the sink. So we left and only came back to go to bed. The next morning I tried to take a shower, got as far as my hair shampooed and conditioned, then the water was scalding me, I couldn’t reach the shower head without burning my skin, so I got out and turn the hot water down. God back in and then it went to ice cold, didn’t have a good experience at all. The bed was comfortable and we had a good sleep. We will never stay at The Groundswell and never recommend it to Anyone. Helen and Wally
