Fortezza Hotel

Had very enjoyable 7-night stay in this lovely hotel. Location is just perfect, in old town, right next to harbour. Our superior room on the 3rd floor overlooked the pool and was perfect place to take in views. Very comfortable bed, excellent air con, spacious room with plenty of wardrobe space. Spotlessly clean, like rest of hotel. Fridge in room (empty except for two bottles of water on arrival) was handy. Bathroom functional, with over bath shower, with great water pressure. Soap, shower gel and shampoo were provided. There was also a good hairdryer. Breakfast was delicious with a wide range from breads, freshly baked pastries, homemade jams, cereals, dried and fresh fruit, cheeses, platter of fresh salad vegetables, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, little sausages, spinach pie and more - all buffet self service, and continuously restocked. Staff were very friendly and hardworking. The pool was great, sometimes busy, but always got a lounger, and had lunch there most days (toasties, bacon and eggs, omelettes, pizzas, pasta etc). Quiet ambience, with mostly middle aged and older couples reading or sunbathing. The bar is open till 11pm at night. The only negative for us was just having the one room key - which took some getting used to (leaving it at reception when out worked best). Had a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable stay and can see why there so many guests returning- we are planning to do the same. Thank you!

Superb hotel right in the Old Town, so easy to access all the restaurants and shops, or walk up to The Fortezza for some amazing views. It’s a beautifully clean hotel with awesome staff who really can’t do enough for you. Our room had a pool view and a good sized balcony (Superior) which had everything you might need. The bathroom was lovely (although the shower head holder was at the opposite end of the bath to the screen which took some getting used to), the bedroom was a good size with a mini fridge, aircon and a comfy bed and good bedside tables. There was a table and chair and a dressing table, mirror and stool too. Hairdryer worked well. Good sized wardrobe for shirts, skirts etc but maxi dresses had to be hung elsewhere as there was no extra long hanging space. No tea/coffee making facilities in room but we always take a travel kettle for this eventuality. There were 2 bottles of water in the fridge. Breakfast was lovely with a good selection of juices, coffee, bread (and a toaster). pastry, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, salad, cheeses and cold meats, warm offering of mini sausages sometimes with tomatoes, bacon or mushrooms and mainly omelette/scrambled eggs but one day fried eggs were on offer. The breakfast staff refilled and replenished as soon as stock was low and were super helpful and friendly. The local pastries were delicious. The pool area is well equipped with extra sunbeds available, tables & chairs and a shaded area if needed. Showers & toilets by pool are always clean. The planting around the pool is very pretty with lots of flowers, trees & shrubs and is very well maintained. Table service for drinks, snacks and food is good. They arranged a rental car from ‘Auto Summer Car Rental’ for us which was dreadful and had no way to lock vehicle or properly clear windscreen and was very tired and expensive in comparison to other companies but this can’t reflect on the hotel, my advice on car hire is to go to one of the well known companies as it’s pretty cheap here. If you take the coach here, it drops you around 100 metres away so make sure you know the route to the hotel beforehand but it’s all on a gentle slope downhill which is fine on arrival but slightly uphill on the return leg! All in all, thoroughly recommend this hotel, its facilities, the staff and the breakfast. Very reasonably priced too.

I loved this hotel, it’s in the perfect location for the Old town, the Fortress and the harbour. The rooms have good air conditioning, small fridge and TV( BBC News) . The staff are really helpful. The breakfast food available is toast, bread, biscuits, cake, cereal, juices, tea and coffee, yogurt and fruit, ham, cheese, salad , boiled eggs, and hot food is sausage and scrambled eggs. We tried the bar food - club sandwich and dakos and it was delicious and good value . The pool area was never overly busy. It was about 15-20 mins to the municipal gardens where a lot of buses and bus tours are available .

Very comfortable room with a balcony! Great housekeeping service and friendly staff all over! I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times in past years and I absolutely love it!! The breakfast room is very stylish with a great selection of breakfast item such as yogurt, cereals, different types of bread and cakes, cold cuts, cheeses as well as warm dishes which concist of scrambled eggs and small sausages. To go with the food are different types of juices and even four kinds of coffee!! The hotel also has a nice pool and is blessed with an elevator! All in all Hotel Fortezza is the perfect place to stay right in the old town!

This is a really lovely hotel with very friendly and efficient staff. The location could not be better, in Rethymno Old Town which is also very beautiful. So close to lots of very good restaurants and a few minutes walk from the harbour. I loved the pool area, which was quiet and relaxing. Definitely no sun bed wars here. Our balcony overlooked the pool and got lots of sun. The hotel is kept spotless, cleaners do a great job and are also very friendly. The breakfast was simple but very nice. I would not hesitate to return to this hotel or to recommend to family and friends.

Just returned from 8 nights at the Fortezza Hotel. The location was excellent - just a few steps from loads of bars, restaurants and the harbour and about a 15 minute walk to the beach. All the staff were fantastic - friendly, helpful and polite and worked hard. The breakfast was fine - not the most exciting we have had, but well stocked and well presented and the staff always greeted you with a smile. Our room was spacious with a huge comfortable bed, good air conditioning and spotlessly clean. We had a mini fridge which was useful, although tea/coffee making facilities would have been nice. The pool area was small and quite enclosed and we didn't use it much - we prefer the beach - but it was always clean and we were able to get a sunbed if we wanted one. We had a late flight on our final day and were able to use the pool and pool showers as long as we wanted. Only found out on our second to last day that pool towels were available! A receptionist recommended Eliaia for dinner and it was lovely - we visited twice on our stay. If we return to Rethymno we would definitely stay at this hotel again - definitely prefer it to the big, all inclusive faceless hotels.

Fantastic small hotel. Well located for old town. Faultless. Excellent attentive staff. Very clean. Superb buffet breakie. Pool clean and welcome in heat of Greece. Would definitely re visit if visiting Crete again

The Fortezza Hotel is simply delightful. Spacious, elegant and comfortable. It's located in the old town so ideal for wandering the winding streets full of restaurants and shops and in view of the actual Fortress on the hill above. We loved using the pool every afternoon.The staff were so friendly and welcoming, the buffet breakfast delicious and plentiful. 10/10

Second time in this hotel, and we are coming back. Quiet place in a central place in the old town. Short walk from everything. Good breakfast buffé. The staff is extremely helpful and nice aswell. All in all a beautiful hotel.
