Agriturismo Podere Paugnano

Podere Paugnano is a working sheep farm specializing in pecorino cheeses run for many decades by Sardinians Giovanni and Giovanna and their two daughters Tamara and Natalie. We were warmly welcomed upon our arrival by Natalie, who provided a wonderful explanation of the entire cheese making process and overall description of farm life including the rules played by each animal—from the massive hogs, busy chickens, and many cats to the impressive Maremma sheep dogs whose gentle nature belies their primary role of protecting the sheep. The true highlight, though, was sharing lunch with the family while sitting around their large kitchen table. The meal featured delicious cheese and homemade jams, and outstanding lamb dish, and a fresh and perfect dessert of sheep yogurt and ricotta. We particularly enjoyed having Giovanni join at the table, where Natalie translated our fun conversation. It was, in short, a charmed afternoon in a lovely spot!
