We recently stayed at Casa Gangotena and overall had a great experience. The hotel is beautifully restored, full of historic charm, and located in the heart of Quito’s old town—perfect for exploring the city. The rooftop bar is a lovely spot to relax with great views, and breakfast was very good, with a mix of buffet options and made-to-order dishes like Eggs Benedict and avocado toast. Service was attentive, and while it was good, it was missing the extra level of refinement we’ve come to expect from Relais & Châteaux properties. Small details that would elevate the experience just weren’t quite there. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was large and well-appointed but could benefit from better lighting at the vanity, additional lighting in the shower, more vanity space, and added storage under the window. While Casa Gangotena is undoubtedly the best place to stay in Quito, the overall experience feels expensive for what it is. It’s a beautiful hotel with a great location, but at this price point, we expected a bit more in terms of amenities and attention to detail. Would we stay here again? Yes—but with the understanding that you’re paying a premium primarily for the location and historic charm rather than an ultra-luxurious experience.
