I’ve stopped reviewing hotels for years now but I feel like I needed to write about the service at Borgo Santo Pietro, so that they can look into it. Borgo Santo Pietro is the kind of hotel I have always loved to stay. Rustic-luxe, working farm, antique furnishings, lots of greenery, comfortable room, great food, and a fabulous spa that melts your body mind and soul. I have stayed at numerous top tier hotels similar to this over the years, for example Heckfield Place in England, Soho Farmhouse etc We were warmly welcomed by the owners Claus and Janette as soon as we got off from the helicopter, and had a lovely Florentine marbled making workshop with them. There’s a helipad in BSP so it is very nice and efficient. The hotel, surrounded by farmland and filled with stunning gardens and ponds, completely blew us away by its charm and beauty. The two connecting suites we stayed were simply fab. Extremely comfortable beds and linens, lovely touches here and there, in room floral bath prepped after our spa treatments. And oh yes, the SPA! It’s definitely one of the best I’ve ever been to. The 3 hours facial and massage I had with skillful Sara was everything I needed and beyond. Trattoria sull’Albero, the more casual restaurant as opposed to the 1 star’s Saporium, is better and less stuffy in my opinion. The manager (sorry didn’t get his name) knows his stuff and is the most well trained staff among all staff members in the hotel. He’s warm, friendly and professional. Food was excellent at Trattoria sull’Albero. Speaking of service. Was very let down when the reception staff asked for tips right after him showing us the rooms. I usually tip big but got very disgusted (and honestly shocked) being asked so, especially at a hotel in such high calibre. The beginning of our stay was spoiled by him. And guess what, he asked for tips again the moment we checked out. I did eventually tip the bell boys, not as much as I usually would tho, and definitely did not tip this reception guy. Why? Because tips are meant for great service. Capiche? First night was frustrating - power went out many times and came back on many times. So in between 11pm to 4am the lights went on and off more or less than 15 times. Tried calling the reception but failed to connect due to power outage. Talked to the staff the next day, all she did was brushing it off. Fortunately it got stable the second night. Well so, BSP was bittersweet for us. It’s a shame when the experience was ruined by lack of training, or sometimes just by 1 or 2 staffs, at such magnificent establishment. Sad and disappointing indeed.
