Quinta da Bela Vista

Nach mehreren Nächten stellt man natürlich das ein oder andere Manko fest. Für uns befindet sich jedoch alles insgesamt noch auf einem Niveau, wo es dem Stil angemessen scheint. Sehr stilvoll insgesamt und die Professionalität bzw der Umgang der meisten Angestellten mit den Gästen auf einer gelungenen Ebene. Man darf tatsächlich das P/L nicht außer Acht lassen. Nicht für jeden das richtige, doch selbst die Lage ist für uns ein super Kompromiss.

When I read other reviews for this place I was a little worried. Boring breakfasts, average evening meals etc. What nonsense! We stayed half board and it was superb. This was quite simply one of the best hotels I`ve stayed in anywhere. Excellent friendly staff, superb breakfasts offering changing fresh / dried fruit, muesli, yoghourts, hot options choice of eggs, meats and salads + salmon / rare beef,pastries and croissants and the best pastel de nata. Also 5 choices of fresh fruit juices and fizz! What more could anyone want to start their day? The 4 course evening meals were superb with starters, fish course (all were superb) mains ranging from fillet beef to duck, veal cheeks etc and nice desserts. I wasn`t a fan of the Madeira wines I tried but service was attentive and you could go a ll carte if you wished. Just a shame for us the a la carte wasn`t being offered at the old manor house ( Do go in and have a look at it). The pool area was lovely and had attentive staff and a shuttle into town was offered several times a day Monday to Friday. If unavailable a bus stop up the road had buses for E1.95 into town or a taxi was around 8.50 more if they failed to give change for a 10! Anyone being negative about this place either has an agenda or doesn`t recognise quality! For adults it offers tranquility and quality of service it would be hard to match.

Two of us have just returned from a wonderful week at this fantastic hotel. Reading some of the reviews, I didn’t recognise it as being the same place we stayed in. Forget all the negative comments, especially about water and eggs.There is a very large complimentary bottle of water placed in every room at the start of the holiday. I’m guessing in common with many other countries, the tap water should not be drunk. So every night at dinner, along with out favourite tipple they ask if we want water. They write room numbers on unfinished bottles. My total water bill for the week was around 10 euros! There is also tea and coffee making facilities with fresh cartons of milk every day, a mini fridge, mini bar, complimentary bathrobes, slippers, hairdryer, TV and safe. The buffet breakfast was amazing with huge choice - scrambled eggs always available and I saw a few people ordering fried and poached eggs. We enjoyed a marvellous 4 course dinner every night. I’ve stayed in many hotels and this was up there with the best of them. The rooms are spacious and cleaned daily. There is a courtesy bus to Funchal which does about 4 returns every day. Service bus is about 1.95 and taxi is about 8 euros. The pool bar and pool area are immaculate. Every sunbed has a cushion and clean towel on it. There is also a gym, sauna and jacuzzi. Every single member of staff we met were immaculately dressed, friendly, polite and welcoming. A special mention to Magda who works in the restaurant at breakfast and the pool bar. She is a delightful lady and she is a credit to the hotel. I cannot think of one single negative thing to say about this place and I would happily welcome it to family and friends - although perhaps not those with young children.

half board and food was in our view the same every night. could not have plain tap water for the dinner. I could only eat the dessert one night. no options on the menu. having stayed in Funchal 2 months before the dinner was on the expensive side. the bedrooms were noisy and you could hear everything, but the bed was comfortable. there is a curtesy bus 5 times a day from 10 to 6pm but only weekdays so on the whole we used the local buses at 1:95 each unless you get a card.

The Quinta da Bela Vista, in its elevated position, overlooks Funchal, with long views out to sea and up to the mountains. Mature gardens, a swimming pool and excellent poolside bar make the most of its peaceful location. To get into town you can walk (but it's uphill on the way back), take the hotel shuttle bus, a taxi or a public bus. Bedrooms are spacious and well-appointed and the living room is furnished with interesting antiques. Breakfasts are brilliant but we were on a set menu for four-course dinners so the lack of choice was disappointing. For a treat, eat in the a la carte restaurant in the original manor house in the grounds. From arrival to departure the staff were friendly, efficient and helpful.

We spent a week in this lovely hotel, which has 5 star elements, during March 2022. It is set in peaceful and private mature gardens a few miles out of Funchal. A courtesy bus runs to and fore several times a day. The reception staff were welcoming, courteous and willing to spend time to help and advise on travel and trips. The cuisine was of a high standard. The fixed daily menu was posted in reception and comprised 4 courses. The fish course being particularly enjoyable. Our spacious bedroom was spotlessly clean and the cleaning staff did a fine job every day. The facilities included an outdoor pool (not heated), a jacuzzi, sauna and gym room and were well maintained and clean. We had only one gripe. We booked through Inspired Luxury escapes on what we thought was a discounted package. We met the Broadway travel agent at the hotel at the same time as another couple who had just arrived. We discovered that not only did they have two complimentary day trips thrown in, but had a 2 day longer holiday than us and actually paid nearly £200 less! They booked via Travelzoo. You could say that you pay extra for quality service. Sadly, when we had a travel difficulty, Inspired Luxury Escapes proved incompetent and not particularly helpful, though we did squeeze an apology out of them. We will be advising family and contacts on social media to be careful with whom they book if they don't want to pay through the nose, or be fleeced! Anyway, we highly recommend this hotel for a tranquil and enjoyable break.

An oasis in a rather crowded city. In the direct surroundings I found litter on the streets and gardens surrounding the flats. That's where the Quinta is not responsible for. The Quinta is beautiful, very friendly and helpful staff. Break two other restaurants are good and the quality is perfect, it has its price of course.

I have just read the last two excellent reviews and confirm their comments. A quaint building amongst pretty and quiet grounds. If one wanted to be picky one would say that the carpets may be a bit thin in places but everything else is just lovely. I have never met staff so attentive and professional. You'd walk in they'd know your room number and what you normally have to drink without asking! As soon as your wine glass is getting low they're subtly there topping it up, empty plates are on the table for less than a minute - but all this is done quietly and so you hardly notice and certainly don't feel rushed. I wish places in England had the same quality of staff! One "quirk" is that they provide a new bottle of water daily in your room for free - but charge for water when having a meal so be careful it can add up! luckily we found oud and refused water when offered. Even more strange is that there's free Prosecco at breakfast (as much as you want) but not free water, and you're not allowed to bring your free water down from your room. You just chill here - it's so quiet and peaceful and all you here are the birds, occasionally we heard children in a nearby kindergarten but only for a short time. The shuttle bus was brilliant too - always on time and easier than the bus (which was fine anyway with a stop just up the road). I'm sure I've forgotten some other praise - just go there and you'll see what I mean!
