I am writing this review before even leaving the island of Naxos. My wife and I are fairly experienced travelers and we found our way to Ammothines towards the end of our ~17 day honeymoon tour of Italy and Greece. As we’re sitting here waiting for our ferry to our final location, we find ourselves regretting that we didn’t spend more of our vacation at Ammothines. When you visit Ammothines, expect to immediately be blown away by the elegance of the property, nestled into the eastern beachfront of Naxos with a sweeping vista of the Aegean Sea and neighboring islands. You will be greeted by some of the kindest staff you can imagine—Seriously, we wanted to hug everyone by the end of our stay. As we settled in and had a few conversations, we learned that we were staying in a hand-crafted, family owned, family operated luxury hotel, which made us appreciate the elegance and detail even more. The father and son (General Manager) of the family who own Ammothines are engineers, and they constructed every fine detail of this property by hand—from the beautiful marble light fixtures carefully placed around the property, the marble hand rails on display front and center of every suite’s balcony, the exquisite woodwork that perfectly compliments the rest of the warm and welcoming color palate—all built by hand. We felt like we were staying in an art exhibit. The very impressive detail goes beyond the design—the restaurant and kitchen staff were extremely friendly and the drinks and food were made with great attention and care. I was sitting on my balcony one evening and noticed the restaurant manager (sister of the GM) walk outside with scissors to snip fresh ingredients right from their beautiful landscape. They also grow grapes on their property that they make into traditional homemade Greek wine, which I highly recommend trying! The rooms were well kept with punctual housekeeping (managed by the mother of the GM), granting their guests the liberty to leave for the day worry free, and come back to fresh linens and a clean room. After a while, we recognized the same staff returning daily, passionately pouring their heart and souls into accommodating their guests, (and yes, this includes the owners). This hotel and staff epitomize the hardworking, hospitable, and proud Greek culture, and I’d recommend paying this magical place a visit. Us Americans can learn a thing or two from them. tldr; if you were to ask me to describe the perfect hotel in the perfect location with the perfect staff, my description would not have been nearly as perfect as Ammothines.
