The Slate, Phuket

The room is good; Location is good; Its sport bar with complimentary drink is perfect; The service in general is cool,  Yet its service during breakfast is far from perfect: 1. Collecting the finished plates and delivering cooked eggs is slow; servers are chatting amongst themselves 2. Our seats were taken by another couple, which is quite unbelievable as a rather junior server didn’t realise the seats were taken.  That’s quite awkward to both couples.

Amazing resort with a beautiful design, the room is spacious, the breakfast is delicious. There are some different bars and restaurants on the property, a bit pricey though. I was travelling with an infant and there’s a playroom for kids and a playground but the thing that I really liked that it’s not full of kids, and if you don’t wanna see any kids, you can go to the pool for adults only. The hotel is very close to the airport and they can organise airport transfer for 600batt per van. The beach is right across the narrow road from the hotel, it’s not that beautiful but it’s full of beach restaurants where you can enjoy sunsets while drinking a cocktail (something you can’t do in Kata or Karon because there are no beach bars or restaurants). I wanted to stay at this location because it’s closer to the port for taking a day trip to Similan islands, so I didn’t expect much from the beach but in the end I loved that location much better than Kata. I would definitely come back again if I’m in Phuket. The service, the food, everything was 5 star

Great room, service staff are very friendly. We had a 3 night stay, my issue stems with our first room lacking hot water, we contacted the staff and we got changed to a bigger room. Upon testing the hot water in the next room, the hot water was a filthy yellow colour. We contacted the reception of this issue and they sent someone down, however said they had no immediate fix as the fix needed was to run the hot water taps until the water turned clear. This took the whole day, for the 2/3 nights of our stay we did not have hot water, very disappointing. Manager explained that the repair of the hot water tank lead to dirt and mineral buildup in the hot water tank, hence they needed guest to run the hot water to clear the water colour, considering that phuket’s water is not the cleanest, we refrained from showering in the yellow hot water. Additionally, during one of the housekeeping services, my jacket got swept into the laundry cleaning through the bed sheets. We only noticed the jacket was missing upon checkout and notified the hotel. IMPORTANT: They said they’ll contact us if found. We had time to kill, around 5hours before heading to the airport and upon security screening, through no fault of theirs, I realised i also left my Ipad at the hotel. I was in the terminal at that point and called the hotel. They said: “Yea we found an ipad in your room, also you were missing something else correct?” I said yes my jacket as well. Turns out they had found both my ipad in the room and jacket in the laundry, and did not bother contacting me after checking out until I called them to ask about it. If they had notified us about this, we could have returned to the hotel and picked it up, instead we were stuck in the airport terminal… They did manage to return us the items through the great help of the airport staff and swift concierge service, but all this could be avoided if they called me? Or emailed me as they said they would if they found something? Truly disappointing.

Service is excellent! All staff is extremely mannered and kind. The resort is very kid friendly with an infant-friendly menu (incl steamed vegetables, proteins), a pool, kids club and various activities. The estate is large but doesn’t feel that way due to the architecture with a lot of nature. Rooms are spacious as well. Only point of improvement would be the breakfast buffet. Taste of the food and coffee is quite mediocre.

It is our second time in The slate. We love the hotel, the service, pool, location and the beach and street vicinity. The service was great and staff is very helpful and nice. Special thanks yo April from front desk that was very helpful and assisted us. Thank you
