Shepherds Tree Game Reserve

We stayed for five nights, transferring easily from Johannesburg, and from the moment we arrived we knew we were somewhere special. The lodge sits slightly elevated on the edge of the reserve, offering beautiful sweeping views — peaceful, scenic and filled with wildlife sounds. Our two-bedroom villa was stunning: two large, immaculate bedrooms with a spacious lounge between them, and a private deck with its own pool overlooking the bush. Everything was spotless, comfortable and perfectly thought out for relaxation after early mornings on safari. The food was consistently superb. Breakfast after the morning drive was à la carte, always fresh, beautifully cooked and served with a smile — just what you need after being out at dawn. Lunch from 1 pm was another highlight, a three-course feast every day, and dinners were à la carte again with impeccable presentation and a lovely wine selection. Our guide, Hellen, was incredible — full of knowledge, warmth and enthusiasm. The drives at 5.30 am and 4.30 pm were genuine adventures. We were lucky enough to see all of the Big Five, and sometimes even raced through the reserve to catch a sighting just in time! Every single member of staff made the stay feel personal. We were greeted on arrival with singing, and every time we returned from a drive, the team met us with cool towels and big smiles. Those thoughtful touches made the experience unforgettable. Everything about Shepherd’s Tree Lodge felt special — the people, the views, the wildlife and the atmosphere. I would wholeheartedly recommend it and wouldn’t hesitate to return.
