Seaview Beach Hotel

The SeaView was the first hotel in Phillipsburg, opening in 1940. It has clearly been modernized--excellent a/c, tv, modern windows, bathroom fittings, but is currently being completely refurbished following a change of ownership during the pandemic. The building works while we were there were not a problem but will add a swimming pool, and more luxurious fittings to the rooms. The breakfast service was suspended during our visit but the Double Dutch Cafe on the front towrds the sea offered excellent coffee, juice and criossants. Currently the overnight rate is excellent value--prices will no doubt go up once the restoration work has finished. it will still be a great place to stay while in the Great Bay area.

We paid $150 per night. For half that I would have given it a great rating. For this price it was a bit disappointing. The staff were very nice but overall it needed attention. An ice bucket but NO ice anywhere on the premises. Ok, I can live with that. Shower was marginal. Very poor sound insulation. Just a bit neglected. Especially for the price. I see two factors causing this. 1. Still coming back from hurricane damage. 2. New owners that are not putting in the effort.

Some of the information online is outdated. Breakfast is no longer available but the staff will show you an inexpensive locals place. Wifi was available in my room, not just in the lobby and it’s free with good speed for streaming. Air conditioning was powerful and easy to adjust. Front desk staff was generally friendly and always willing to help with tourist type questions. Now for the negatives. The property is fairly old and is bare bones. Getting to the beach involves going out the front door and walkin 1 block through an alley. That’s generally OK for me but it’s not a fancy place. There is very little storage space for clothes but it’s OK for a solo traveler. The biggest challenge is the lack of electric outlets. None in the bathroom and only one in the sleeping area. A 3-way plug was used but the refrigerator, television and router used all the slots. I unplugged the television and rotated my phone and tablet through nighttime charging. As other reviewers have noted, this property is best used for an overnight stay before a cruise.

This hotel build in 1962 breathes old Caribbean style. The rooms have everything to accomodate a pleasant stay. The window shutters keep out the sun and noise. The bed is small, but very comfortable! The view over Great Bay is breathtaking! The entrance is in the main shopping street, and historical center of Philipsburg

The bedroom was absolutely awful, one of the beds had a mattress that was tilting so my dad was almost falling out of bed several times in the night… two tiles in the bathroom broke and made the towel rail break aswell.. it smelt like mould and the furnitures were just horrible… the pool area, staff and service was really good though but this hotel needs an update asap!!!

The property focuses on their pool and bar that is in front of the Boardwalk. They pay much less attention to the upkeep of the rooms. With that said, I thought the bed and linens were very good. The place needs to be upgraded. They could charge much more if they invested in their property.

Perfect location! Walkable to all shopping and dining. 25 - 30 minute ride from the airport. Though our room with 2 twin beds is in need of an upgrade, we only paid $95/ night. Everything else about the hotel is spectacular! The infinity pool overlooking the Great Bay, steps from the beach, includes chair, umbrella n towel on the beach, the staff is great, pizza is delicious, great area to relax at night n enjoy music, a drink and the view. Would definitely stay again.

Location in Philipsburg and beach access (including pool and bar) are perfect. Rooms and services, although correct and functional, are in need of a little TLC... I can recommend for a short stay (beds were comfortable and room was clean), but don't expect modern and/or luxurious... until fully renovated. Very limited activities on the beachfront when no cruiseships in port.

I enjoyed that this was a small hotel, with very friendly staff and convenient amenities. I prefer smaller, more authentic experiences that I hope benefit local people more than the large hotels.
