A small group of us booked a table in the Garden Cafe for lunch on 29th July which was pleasant enough, not cheap but priced about right for such a lovely setting. Payment for the meal for myself and my wife was total nightmare. The card machine in the cafe was not working, my offer of cash was refused and I was directed to a reception desk where I had to wait for more than a quarter hour for them to re-boot their system. After a couple of minutes I said I'd sit with my group whilst they were sorting out their payment system, but they insisted I stayed there. Payment made, I sat with my friends when it occurred to me that I'd been over charged. £9 + £14.50 + £2.50 + £3.50 = £29.50 whereas they'd taken £32. I went back to the counter to check the total and was shown a computer screen total of £32, told it was correct, and slightly stunned returned to wait for the food. After eating I returned to the counter to ask again to check the bill. The counter girl showed me the screen again and called in her supervisor. Neither of them were able to add up these four numbers to check, but the supervisor pulled out her phone to add up my items to find out I had been over charged by entering the £2.50 item twice. They said they were unable to refund me before I left, but would do this within a fortnight. That didn't happen, so I sent a reminder email. They replied asking for my account details so they could refund ASAP. I supplied these details and now, 10 days later still no refund. My advice to others is that the Holbrook Manor Garden Cafe is worth visiting but to carefully check your bill before payment as any correction afterwards is hopeless.
