Socialtel Atitlan - Formerly Selina Atitlan

The staff were amazing. They made great food recommendations, organise shuttles, got us involved in samba classes, and were so happy to ensure our stay was great. We stayed in the private suite and it was gorgeous. Clean and lots of amenities Only niggle is there was no safe in the room, and take earplugs because you can hear dogs barking and fighting in the middle of the night. Not the hostel's fault though- it comes with staying that close to the town centre.

I wish I had done more research on Selina Atitlán before. They place an unsettling amount on emphasis on how "they don't take responsibility for items of value left in the luggage room", way more than other places. No other hostels in my trip so far (or others before) were that intense in this aspect..in hindsight, it should have been a red flag. I had all my money and valuables extracted from my suitcase (mind you, it had a code lock that was broken into - that is, the suitcase itself was also damaged in this process), and the hostel takes a super impersonal approach to the guests who undergo through such an experience. No real appeasing, no actual manager to make themselves available, they even have a "established procedure" to not provide video footage except with a warrant - it's as if they're used to these things happening, comfortable with the impunity of not being legally liable. As a guest, I felt very disrespected - the hostel is ok, good price, good location, looks nice compared to other options in the lake, etc. But this experience has soured my whole Atitlan trip.

This place is asking for way to much money for what they offer. The beds are worn in and smell , very bare minimum bedding. The bare electrical outlet near the bunks are just asking for someone to get electrocuted. The bath rooms are also worn an rusty . And lastly there is no A/C in the shared rooms so why pay a premium price. The food at the restaurant is ok but over priced, and the alcoholic drinks barely have any alcohol in it. There was this one cashier who was very rude and when I placed my order I gave him a large bill expecting to get change back and when he closed the register he went back to his phone until I told him where my change was. The court yard is nice with a pool and tables and the dogs running around are fun but I kept seeing the same pile of poop in the shrubs for three days so the cleanliness is not there. Quite honestly for a chain hostel this location puts me off from ever booking another Selina location ever. SUPPORT YOUR MOM & POP HOSTELS!! Also don’t take their shuttle service they over charge you compared to Atitrans( who they use but up charge the price) book directly with the shuttle companies not with them.

We stayed in a shared 8 person dorm with en-suite. It was clean, and decently quite at night. The staff were awesome and very accommodating at all time. We got our dry cleaning done and it smelled fresh, was folded, and well priced as well. The pool was cleaned daily and nice to take a dip in. The restaurant however, was AWESOME. Honestly probably the best hostel food I’ve had. We are there serval times just due to the food begin that good. I recommend the wings with the Thai sauce. I would most definitely stay here again!!

The four person dorm is lovely and roomy, the staff were nice and helpful, location is good and the beach bar and pool are are pretty and fun to hang out at. Slightly pricey for what it is, but a relaxing stay if you want to stay in panajachel (I would recommend staying at a nicer part of the lake in general though).

Decent hotel, but overpriced for the value in the area. The gardens of the hotel are great and the room was big. Conveniently located near one of the public docks in Pana and on a quiet street in town.
