8-9/2/24 We three middle aged guys were on our return leg from Belize to Cancun. We booked here the day before from Hopkins as it was a good price and there were few alternatives. We left the bus station to walk the short way to this oasis in a shabby backstreet (part of the character of Belize). We wished we had found this place on our original passage through OW instead of being stuck a mile and a half out in a dodgy area Abnb. We were greeted by Ricky himself who told us how he built everything himself with friends. Their handywork was impressive! He took us to the private room where two of us stayed, the third stayed in the dorms as that was all that was available, no problem. A third Z bed would have been tricky to fit in to the private double room. The double room was well equipped with lots of electric sockets, a large wall mounted LED TV, large fan, new A/C, lots of hooks (reference to Tania's in Hopkins who said wall hooks were not allowed!) and a wardrobe with lots of clothes hangers. All very well thought through as Ricky must have traveled a lot himself (many places give the impression that the owners have never traveled!). A single bedside lamp on a bedside table was present (although similar in the other side would be useful - Ricky appreciates constructive criticism to improve his service). A fire extinguisher was also available by the door as the building is solid wood by the look of it. The door to the room had a zip mosquito screen across it (there was a tiny pond nearby but it harboured the dreaded mozzies!). A large wall mounted TV had Netflix which we watched in the evening as there is not much night life after a light and tasty meal at Nubia. Our night was quiet and comfortable as was our friend's in the dorm. He said he had his own shelf with electric socket to charge his own phone and a privacy curtain. Ricky had thought of everything! The common room was a large room with kitchen facilities, dining table and comfy chairs. A spiral staircases led up to Ricky's mezzanine flat. In the morning we had a quick breakfast and Ricky made some free coffee for us. We rushed off at 08:45 (after taking a selfie with Ricky) to the bus stop to catch the 09:00 coach to Chetumal (which left five minutes early!!!!).
