The Barn at Killin B&B

What a warm and inviting environment awaited us. We entered the barn and were greeted by both Hugh and Dwayne. The decor is sumptuous and is fastidiously maintained throughout. The Barn was warm and inviting. Reading on the couch while being warmed by the open fire was a relaxing experience. The Barn sits in a picturesque setting. Views from Lake Middleton to mountaintops are framed by each and every window. Hugh and Dwayne are almost invisibly efficient. They are very professional, allowing you to feel pampered at every turn. They have an extensive knowledge of the area and, if asked, will share details on the must-see and do activities suited to your wants and needs. The bed was the most comfortable we have slept in, allowing us to truly relax. The breakfasts and dinners were something to look forward to. Everything was of a consistently high standard. Thank you, Hugh and Dwayne, for a very memorable stay.

We stayed here for one night for a birthday celebration. This is one of our best BnB stays in all of New Zealand! The BnB was very tastefully decorated with a beautiful blend of new and antique furniture and high quality furnishings with great attention to detail. The hosts Hugh and Dwayne were very welcoming and we had a great time sharing a meal with them in the evening and chatting by the cosy open fire. The food was excellent both the evening meal and the breakfast and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We received a warm welcome from Hugh, who is an absolute darling and made us feel immediately at home, serving us afternoon tea in fine china cups and saucers (no pottery mugs here!), complete with teapot, milk jug and sugar basin. Never has a bed and breakfast been so much like a much loved family home. There are collections of treasures on every surface, making me especially feel I belonged. The two sitting rooms were beautifully decorated, one had an enormous open fireplace. The four bedrooms were each decorated in a different theme. Our king size bed supremely comfortable. A very modern ensuite with thoughtful extras, including hot water bottles. We stayed for three nights and each evening meal was a culinary masterpiece, prepared and served by Hugh, who joined us at the table and kept us highly amused. The table was set fit for royalty with fine china and crystal. Cloth napkins and napkin rings. Breakfasts were innovative, again prepared and served by Hugh, who is the most marvellous host. Sadly, his partner Dwayne was away for our first couple of days but joined us later. He too is delightful and the two of them run a wonderful establishment reminiscent of an earlier genteel era, but with a relaxed, modern atmosphere. My partner and I look back fondly on our time spent at The Barn and hope to return before too long. Thank you, Hugh and Dwayne for making our time at The Barn the highlight of our five weeks in NZ.

Superior accommodation, coupled with excellent food and company. Hugh & Dwayne are wonderful, warm and welcoming hosts. The rooms are furnished beautifully as is the rest of the barn. Lake Ohau was a serene and beautiful place to spend a weekend away, yet close enough to other destinations for an easy day trip.

We came here on the Alps to Ocean ride and it was a real high point in our trip. We had some challenging weather that day with some wind and rain/sleet. Hugh met us at the door with mugs of hot mulled wine. He and Dwayne had the fire already going for us and made us comfortable right away. Fabulous food and they were so fun to talk with. We had a wonderful sunset on their property which was immaculate. Wonderful accommodations. We even got to play some musical instruments before dinner (and they made us a lunch for the next day!) We will be back!

The perfect hosts in the most beautiful location! Hugh and Dwayne have created something really special! The thought and care that they put into making our stay so welcoming, was truly amazing. Luxurious room, food that could grace any top hotels table, delivered with a cheeky charisma, that will want you coming back for more. The guys really do know how to entertain! Hopefully we will get a chance to be in their company again. A top place to stay for sure….

Unanimously agreed that Hugh and Dwayne took the top spot in location, comfort, beauty and hilarity on our A2O journey. Where do I begin... the ride to this remote location is breathtakingly gorgeous, alongside Lake Ohau. Then the greeting is warm and hilarious, then the Barn is straight out of a design magazine, exceptionally tastefully done. Iced tea on arrival as you are shown around Hugh and Dwayne's home is a lovely touch. The rooms are extremely comfortable, bathrooms brand new, everything is spotlessly clean. These two know how to host, dinner was SUPERB! Absolutely delicious and very accommodating of the celiac in our party. Very comfortable beds, lovely shower, another restaurant quality meal for breakfast - and I say restaurant quality, not buffet breakfast styles. All presented beautifully in gorgeous china. A packed lunch is waiting for you on a silver platter as you leave - delicious egg and salad wraps, little treats scattered throughout the lunch packs plus checkered napkin. The attention to detail did not go unnoticed. It was perfection in every way, we most certainly will be back - stay terrible Muriel ;-)

Immaculately clean, amazing decor, attention to destabilise and our comfort was paramount. Hugh and Dwayne are the perfect hosts. We would definitely stay again and bring others back with us. Restaurant quality meals. Thank you so much!!.

Our overnight stay with Hugh and Dwayne at the Barn was a highlight of our A2O bike ride. We were treated to genuine kiwi friendly hospitality, delicious meals including hors d’oeuvres on our arrival and a packed lunch on our departure, a fabulous French themed bedroom with very comfy bed and loved the cosy, inclusive feel of the eating and sitting area. A very special place with wonderful hosts and a poignant history
