I literally never write reviews. I also work in the service industry and usually think reviews are written by unhappy people. This is not one of those. Upon arrival we were explicit that we were only staying for a few days and didn't want anyone coming into the room to clean - we didn't need it and I don't really like people going through my stuff. Not only did we tell the host, we also witnessed her telling the lady who cleaned the rooms AND we put the "Do not clean our room" sign on our door each time we left. We put our money and passports in the safe as it was recommended. On the last night for some reason the cleaning lady just decided to come clean our room, despite our request and the sign on the door. She must have left the door open while cleaning because that night and only that night we were absolutely overrun with mosquitos. But that is only a side note to the fact that she went through my stuff and stole a silver necklace that was very special to me. I know, everyone will think I lost it, I didn't. It was put away in a small red bag inside another larger blue bag, inside the hidden pocket on my backpack. She went through our stuff, chose that, and stole it. I'm devastated not so much because of the cost of the necklace (it was a rare find antique Native American silver piece that my mother bought for me while we were on a trip together, it cost $300, which is not nothing) but the piece is irreplaceable. I told our host that night as we were packing up to leave the next day and I noticed it was missing. We took apart everything we had with us. Went through every nook and cranny. I texted her to let her and know and she said she would ask the cleaning lady. Who said, yes, she had come into our room without permission and even though we'd asked her not to "to replace our toilet paper" which we absolutely did not need and would have asked for if we did. The host was very sorry. And that's pretty much it. I'm screwed and she didn't even offer to pay.
