We stayed two nights in one of the Troutbeck resort lodges and paid a premium to secure what we were told would be "refurbished" accommodation. On arrival we found: [1] multiple cigarette and ember burns in the dirty lounge carpet; [2] very old, uncomfortable lounge chairs/sofas with dirty covers and even dirtier cushion covers; [3]several kitchen cabinets/doors that could not close properly with faulty hinges, etc.; [4] ancient scuff marks along the skirting; [5] walls that were dirty and evidently unpainted for many years/decades; and [6] a loose toilet seat that could not be centred and stabilised above the bowl. Following our arrival a local 'manager' attended to collect the balance of our substantial accommodation fee (USD). We complained about the above and said it was obvious that the accommodation had not been refurbished, and that we had paid a premium for nothing. His response was that it had been refurbished 30 years ago! We won't be returning!
