Hotel Casa de Indianos Don Tomás

Unique building, lovely large bedroom. Nothing was a problem for staff and breakfast was so good

I stayed one night at the Casa de Indianos Don Tomas while walking the Camino de Santiago. In spite of what TripAdvisor says, the hotel is not in Llanes but in Nueva which is about 18 km from Llanes. Check in is not until 4PM which is a bit awkward for a peregrino whose arrival depends on the length and difficulty of the day’s walk. I arrived early and wiled away the extra time with lunch at a local restaurant. The hotel is in an older building with lots of historic decorative touches including old photos, typewriters and sewing machines. My room was a reasonable size with balconies on two sides making it feel more spacious and providing extra natural light. There was a table and a couple of chairs on one of the balconies. The double bed was slotted into an alcove with a fairly tight fit on either size. Maneuvering down either side would be a bit of a challenge for the plus sized patron. There was also a small armchair and standalone closet. The bathroom was small with a cramped shower enclosure but functional enough for a single night’s stay. The bedroom and bathroom were nicely decorated with blue accents. The wifi was reasonably functional but a bit slow. There is no lift in the building but the proprietor had already carried my bag, that had been delivered separately, upstairs and also insisted on carrying my daypack up at check in. The hotel is a little way off the main street and very quiet. There was parking opposite that seemed to be available without restriction but I didn’t enquire as it was of no interest to a walker. Guests should note that Google maps shows the location close but not exactly right. Two huge palms out front are good markers. This is an interesting and quirky hotel for those who like something a bit unusual.

Nuestra estancia de fin de semana en este alojamiento fue de 10. Anuska y Jose son unos magníficos anfitriones que, desde el minuto 1, nos dieron un trato inmejorable, siempre atentos con nosotras, recomendándonos y aconsejándonos restaurantes, playa, ocio, actividades, acompañándonos incluso para conseguir mesa para cenar… increíble el trato recibido. El pueblo de Nueva de Llanes, es precioso, tranquilo, su gente encantadora, la comida fantástica, y muy cerca de Ribadesella, y de playas fantásticas. Esperamos repetir pronto, y lo recomendamos 100%
