DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL. WORST HOTEL STAY IN JAKARTA. BAD HYGIENE, CRAPPY SERVICE, TERRIBLE BREAKFAST, NONSENSICAL REGULATIONS.
I booked this room to go to a concert nearby. Checked in at 3-4 PM on December 23, 2023, room was decent and cold. Left for the concert and returned at 1 AM, room still pleasantly cold, as hotel rooms should be. Went to sleep, then the air conditioning went completely off sometime between 2 AM to 4 AM. Tried checking the control panel, nothing worked. This is what went down afterwards.
1. I called receptionist (Arman) who told me that the AC is adjusted by THE HOTEL’S CENTRALIZED SETTING. If so, why the hell would you install a control panel in the room?? Second of all, what was the reason for them to turn off the AC through the said centralized setting when someone’s clearly staying in the room?? He then said he’d send a technician immediately.
2. Technician came by and proceeded to CLEAN THE AIR VENT, making a whole lot of noise. After cleaning for fifteen minutes, he put the air vent back together and left.
3. Ten minutes afterward, the room proceeded to heat up instead of cool down. Impossible to sleep in. I called the receptionist again and Arman answered, saying that the problem was that THE ROOM’S AIR VENT WAS DIRTY. My question is, how does the air vent get that dirty after less than 12 hours of use?? If that’s the hotel’s reasoning, that means the air vent was not cleaned prior to me checking in, causing the air conditioning to fail and ultimately ruining my sleep schedule. Mind you, being able to sleep through the night was my main reason to book this room in the first place. Arman the receptionist doesn’t seem to understand that the hotel is at fault here and offered us a different room in an annoyed tone. At that point (nearly 5 AM in the morning and having only slept for 2 hours), my partner and I were already too exhausted to repack and move ourselves to a different room. I was also furious at how ridiculous the whole situation and Arman’s nonchalance is, so we left it at that.
The next morning, we woke up for breakfast. Note that this hotel claims to be a five-star hotel. The food was horrendous. This hotel deserves two, three stars at best. Staffs? Unhelpful. I had to ask four different staff in the span of one entire hour for a soup ladle to get myself a bowl of miso soup. They don’t even put out new, clean eating utensils on the tables. Terrible, terrible breakfast experience.
My partner and I then ordered lunch from GrabFood. When it arrived, I asked the driver to place my order by the concierge, as any other hotel would allow. Driver then apologized saying he is not allowed to step foot in hotel premises and is not allowed to hand the food over to any of the staff. Please note that I have stayed in a number of five-star hotels throughout Jakarta. Even the Langham and Kempinski would assign their security and/or staff to help us get our food from the driver and have it placed by the front desk. Some even offer to have the food delivered straight to our room. What does Grand Mercure Jakarta Kemayoran do, you ask? They tell the guest to WALK OUT OF THE HOTEL PREMISES AND FETCH THE FOOD OURSELVES. Not even at the hotel lobby, not even at the PARKING LOT, but outside of the building entirely. Does that make sense to you? Because that does not to me.
Note that after having breakfast, I had also asked three times to see the general manager to address all of these unacceptable conditions. The manager never showed up even when it was time for me to check out. I didn’t bother asking for them again afterward. It is clear that this establishment has no interest in listening to their guests’ complaints. I also see that they reply to guests’ bad reviews online using the exact same template, no matter what the guests have to say.
This is the worst hotel experience I have ever had in my life and I urge anyone reading this to reconsider your plans to ever stay in this hotel.
