Sable Alley

A friend and I shared the experience of an African safari. And it was literally out of this world! Our first camp was Sable Alley and it did not disappoint. We saw many animals and with Kam as our guide we got very close to zebras, giraffes, antelopes and we saw prides of lions including baby lion cubs and leopards in trees. And then the elephants! And he manoeuvred over large bodies of water without any problem. The deluxe tents were spacious and lovely and very comfortable. The food was superb. We went swimming in the pool every day to cool off in the afternoon. Overall, we were both very pleased with our experience at Sable Alley. It was excellent!

A very mixed experience indeed. The game drives, communal areas and tented rooms are very good. The camp setting is wonderful. Lunch and dinner are dismal: hot meals arrive lukewarm; food combinations are amateurish; ingredient quality is often corner-shop standard; main course vegetables an afterthought; They ran out of sparkling wine for 3 days, and the table wine range is poor and badly kept. Table service is haphazard. Certainly not worth the money. The parent company, 'Natural Selection' has been in place since 2016 and needs to re-focus on the quality of the dining experience. The place was far from full and I can't see it surviving once European and US tour agents have a year's worth of feedback to digest.

Nach dem Mchenja Camp im South Luangwa NP (Sambia) und dem Shinde Camp (10 Flugminuten entfernt) war Sable Alley eine weitere großartige Erfahrung auf meiner Afrikareise. Das gesamte Camp ist sehr neu und hochwertig. Der große im afrikanischen Stil eingerichtete offene Loungebereich mit Ausblick auf die Lagune ist äußerst gelungen. Hier hält man sich gerne auf und genießt einen Apero an der Bar, tauscht Safarierlebnisse mit anderen Gästen aus oder schaut einfach nur dem Treiben der Hippos zu. Das angebotene Essen war geschmacklich hervorragend und wurde optisch sehr ansprechend serviert. Schön auch der überdachte Liegebereich vor dem kleinen (gekühlten) Pool mit Aussicht auf die Lagune. Mein "Haus" war bestens eingerichtet und ausgestattet. Separate Toilette. Sogar Wasser mit Eiswürfeln stand in Thermoskannen bereit. 5-Sterne Niveau. Die Freundlichkeit der Mitarbeiter war außergewöhnlich. Die "Chefin" des Camps sorgte dafür, dass man sich vom ersten Moment an wohl fühlte. WLAN funktionierte perfekt. In der schönen Landschaft rund um das Camp haben wir viele Tiere gesehen. Auch große Ansammlungen. Unser sehr guter Guide Mo hat nach längerer Suche sogar Leopardenbabies für uns gefunden. Das Safarifahrzeug hatte ausreichende Ablageflächen für Kamera, Brille, Fernglas usw. Positiv war auch, dass vor dem Abflug morgens noch eine Pirschfahrt möglich war. Beim Abheben in Richtung Maun konnte ich dann auf 3 außergewöhnliche und spannende Tage in diesem für mich nahezu perfekten Camp zurückblicken.
