Island Safari Lodge

We spent 2 nights camping at Island Safari, the sites were spacious, flat and equipped with two power sockets. Ablutions were clean and light and there was plenty of hot water, convenient access to washing up sinks. A highlight was the bar and restaurant at the lodge; a broad shaded terrace overlooking the river, dinner and breakfast were excellent and the team very friendly and efficient. The Okavango gin was very pleasant after a day in the sun. We didn’t get a chance to experience the nature walks around the lodge, but a family of kudu paid us a visit in the afternoon which was quite special. The reception team organised a mokoro trip for us at late notice which gave a chance to experience the delta at close quarters.

Island Safari Lodge is both tranquil and conveniently located. We stayed for 3 nights following a busy trip through Botswana and the facilities allowed us to relax and enjoy the the peace and quiet it offered. Nothing to do with Island Safari Lodge, but the road to the Moremi is very bad (August 2024), so that hampered our ability to enjoy the Moremi (4 hour round trip just to get to South Gate).

Very nice property with lots of activities to do. Game drive was highlight. Saw giraffes, lions, leopard with kill on ground and up in tree. Good restaurant, gardens, ambience and staff. Decent swimming pool. Highly recommend a self walk across property to see the animals/game and potential of site. Okavanga boat trip to Chief Island was cancelled due to low water. Refund was quickly organised (bank transaction took place quickly). Mokoro trips were still possible. Review is for campsite/camping. Shared ablutions is sufficient. The rooms/houses looked nice and clean. Would stay here again.

A beautiful settling, nice bar, restaurant, great game walks in their grounds. Staff were rude, hot water didn't work, no fresh towels. Had to ask 3 times for them from the staff at the front counter

we, a family of 3, travelling from ireland, stayed for 2 nights in june 2024. pick up from the airport and checkin was smooth. we wanted to buy a few things in maun and the receptionist (i forget her name - but she was super helpful) was kind enough to call us a taxi who took us to all the places we wanted to go to in maun and then brought us back. we had a free day before we left on a 10-day safari. a day trip to moremi game reserve was recommended (by a guide named sixteen). starting at 0530 and ending by 1700. the safari vehicle was in excellent shape. providing us with the parkas to deal with the chilly early morning drive was thoughtful. the guide (broken was his English name) was knowledgeable, good and knew what he was doing. the packed breakfast and lunch for the day trip was excellent also. the food in the restaurant was tasty and portions were large. the desert (cheese cake) was quite excellent. the location is fabulous. the number of birds you can see both in the morning and the evening was amazing. the deck from which to view the Thamalakane river is nice too. wish were here in a not-draught-year. next time so... the fire pit where you can relax at the end of the day with a drink is a nice touch. we did not use the pool though - we were never around during the daytime and nights were cold enough. on the first evening, the lock on our chalet stopped working and the shower broke down. the team at island safari lodge handled it efficiently and relocated us to a neighbouring chalet within 15 min. in hospitality sector, things break down, things go wrong - good teams deal with such breakdowns swiftly. so, really - rather than being unhappy about the problems, we are delighted in how swiftly it was dealt with. would have been nice if someone had checked the chalet before we checked in though. hence the 4 star to the rooms instead of 5. all in, we felt it was good value for our money and we had a pleasant stay. when we come back to maun, we will happily stay here again.

Unbelievable bad accommodation. Even if the owner refunded our money . This place is in bad shape. Beautiful setting just needs some TLC. Unkept gardens and chalets. Not a good place to stay. Staff under huge stress due to management issues.

The Island Safari Lodge is a great option for those staying in Maun to explore the Okavango Delta, Chiefs Island, and Morami. The property is massive with extensive walking trails and wildlife. The entire property is also walled and gated so you won’t encounter dangerous animals. The lodging is a bit dated so think of a higher end cabin experience as opposed to a hotel. The grounds are beautifully tended with lots of trees and greenery. The staff were all really friendly and helpful when we needed something. The restaurant on the property is a great place to eat. We booked safaris that left directly from the lodge and we’re not in the least disappointed. We saw some amazing wildlife in Moremi. The Delta was really relaxing on the water and they stay fairly close to the shallow areas so it’s safe and you can view a wide range of birds. The walking tour was also amazing. Altogether the Island Safari Lodge was a great experience.

We enjoyed the setting here. The staff were friendly and helpful. We ate dinner each night and enjoyed it. Breakfast was good. A/C worked well but only had WiFi at the lodge. We actually enjoyed sitting at the lodge and watching the view. Staff was great
