Lack of competition has allowed La Residence to hike up prices, but when there are few alternatives, that’s economics. This is a very good hotel by Central African standards. Modern clean large well equipped rooms, good WiFi and air con, and a superb large 25m pool, immaculately maintained. Lots of expats use it at the weekend when it can be busy but during the week it was blissfully quiet. The hotel is used for training and events by NGOs and embassies. Basic breakfast, somewhat underwhelming given the hotel charges. I didn’t eat here at other times as a nearby restaurant offered greater choice in a less hotel-like environment at a fraction of the cost (and beer at one-third the price). I booked a car to collect me from the airport but it didn’t show up. And good too, as it was a simple 5 minute walk to the hotel, that you can see from arrivals, in bright daylight without heavy luggage. I should have walked back even at night but felt I ought to take a cab - utter rip-off at 10,000 CFA ($15) for a five minute ride. Staff spoke reasonable English, which was good. At at end August 2022 the poolside restaurant is open; the main restaurant and nightclub are closed.
