The hotel calls itself a private hotel, ie members of the public cannot just walk into the building without an access key. As other reviewers have said the internal architecture is really in keeping with the spirit of Napier. We were aware before we arrived that the hotel does not provide breakfast, but there are many local places that do. What we found disappointing was that the hotel advertised a bar and restaurant, that in practice do not exist. On arrival I asked to book a table for dinner and was told the latest time available was 6.30pm and no later. Take it or leave it…. On arriving at 6.30 we were the only people in the bar/restaurant and when we left the lights were turned off and doors closed. On other nights during our stay the Churchill restaurant was in darkness. We ate elsewhere.

This is an iconic building dating back to 1909 and being one of the few original art deco buildings still in its original form. Inside this boutique chic hotel and the olde worlde charm is evident in the decor, paintings and woodwork. The welcome from Angela and her team is extremely warm and friendly. The bedroom was spacious, the bed firm and luxurious. The ensuite was clean, functional and well presented. Upstairs is a small library where one can relax and read in peace and quiet. Nice touch. Angela has spent considerable time ensuring that even the small things have been attended to, such as taps, door handles, etc. Luvved it. Extremely comfortable and THE perfect base to wander and peruse the shops, bars and cafes all within easy walking distance. We will only stay here in our future visits.

A beautiful Art Deco hotel in the centre of Napier, on the same street as the Museum and Art Deco centre. Clean and comfortable inside and the hotel restaurant ( Churchills) was fabulour. I normal avoid the restaurants located at places I stay, but the menu was tempting and did not disappoint.

We arrived early but Angela could not have been kinder and more accommodating The hotel was so Art Deco, interesting and had a brilliant ambiance & atmosphere. Our room was lovely Overall a fantastic place to stay in central Napier, so close to the town and seafront Would definitely recommend

We were warmly welcomed by the lovely manager, Angela, and taken to our room where our welcome pack awaited us. Packed with yummy treats, chocolates, fruit and wine! The room was spacious with many Art deco features and the bed very comfortable. The hotel has been refurbished completely in character and one can sit and enjoy the free port provided in the library or play the organ or grand piano while soaking up the significant atmosphere of this building. Despite being transported to yesteryear the hotel provides modern amenities when they are needed, double glazing and three head shower as well as spa bath. I highly recommend upgrading to the spa room if you can. We enjoyed the generous included beverages provided and the meal we enjoyed in the hotels restaurant was top class. ( see photos) Thank you to all the staff at The County who made our stay such a great experience. Angela is always on hand to help out and provided advice on where to eat, tourist info etc.

We thoroughly enjoyed the courteous and helpful staff and Host,Angela.The homely atmosphere extended to the use of a comfortable library and complementary port in the evening.Very comfortable bed.We were fortunate to get a top floor room,with sea views and private balcony,central CBD location without doubt is a bonus. I booked 3 night luxury bliss escape for my husbands birthday and it totally exceeded our expectations. From the moment you arrive Angela goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is the best, we even received an upgrade to a suite. The rooms are furnished in a style to match the heritage of the hotel but have every mod con you need. The bed was extremely comfortable and the rooms had gas heating and air conditioning in the bedroom. When she had to postpone dinner on my husbands birthday to the next night as the chef was sick she reimbursed as handsomely for the inconvenience, we did tell her it wasn't necessary but she insisted. The dinner we had at the restaurant was absolutely delicious and the bar & restaurant have a really nice cozy feel. Angela is an asset to this hotel and made our stay everything we could have asked for.

Wonderful 3 nights loved the detail in the hotel decor it was stunning. Can’t fault anything Angela and Richard were the perfect hosts and their attention to detail was superb. Breakfast was exceptional. Look forward to returning.thanks

Wonderful welcome on arrival. Lovely art deco charm. Walking distance to main shopping centre and beach. Secure parking.very comfortable. Classy restaurant on site. Very well appointed with original art deco features. Complimentary bottle of wine.
